The idea behind ClubFloyd is that each week at a pre-arranged time, a group of people meet online to cooperatively play a game of interactive fiction.

Below is a transcript of Weishaupt Scholars by Michael Martin. Weishaupt Scholars was originally released as part of the 2005 IntroComp, where it took the prize for first runner-up. The first full version of the game, which is the version played by ClubFloyd, was released in August of 2007. You can learn more about the game, including how to download it, by visiting ifwiki.org.

Bulging toychests make this a child's (or child-at-heart's) dream. Play all day, play all night. A small booth has been erected and is staffed by a friendly robot. Floyd | indicates in the upper right which character is currently controlled.
Floyd | The PC will remain static over the course of an episode, but may change
Floyd | between them.

Floyd | Weishaupt Scholars has an episodic structure, in which the outcome of
Floyd | prior episodes influences the events in later ones. It is impossible to
Floyd | actually lose the game until the last chapter -- failures become part
Floyd | of the ongoing narrative, and will influence the nature of the final
Floyd | episode. A warning will appear once the game begins to play for keeps.

Floyd | As a general rule, if you want to replay episodes in order to get the
Floyd | "best playthrough", save at chapter breaks.

Floyd | Finally, Weishaupt Scholars uses a hybrid ask/tell/menu system. When
Floyd | presented with a prompt, you may interact with NPCs in the traditional
Floyd | ASK/TELL manner. However, if an NPC replies (or initiates conversation)
Floyd | in a manner that demands a response, you will be provided a menu of
Floyd | options that will let you characterize your reply.

Floyd | If you're in a conversational situation and want to basically make
Floyd | small talk, try asking the character about him- or herself, with a
Floyd | command like ASK ALICE ABOUT HERSELF or ASK BOB ABOUT BOB. If you run
Floyd | out of ideas of what to talk about, try WAITing. Other characters may
Floyd | have something on their minds.

Jacqueline presses the large button on the FREE DONUTS machine. Nothing happens for a few seconds, then, suddenly, there's a low rumbling sound emanating from within. A thousand little donuts, newly sprung from their machine prison, storm out of the machine! They run around your feet in a happy dance, then quickly dissipate, leaving the room (relatively) empty once more.
McMartin says, "Whut"
