DavidW says, "Divis Mortis"

Nitku arrives, full of fun, but no funk. | inky says, "oh, I figured it was a tie-in with jayis"
DavidW says, "That's a mere lucky coincidence."
Roger arrives, full of fun, but no funk. | DavidW says, "I haven't played Divis yet, which I think will help."
djfletch arrives, full of neither funk nor fun.
jenrexrode arrives, full of fun, but no funk. | DavidW says, "Jacqueline sends her regrets, by the way. She has a new laptop or notepad or whatever it is, but she needed today for other things."
DavidW says, "I don't know much about today's game. I gather it takes place in a hospital, and 'mortis' suggests to my mind a horror sort of game."
DavidW asks, "Anyway, who hasn't played this one? Other than me?"
Roger says, "Not I" | ||||
DavidW says, "hm. Well, I hope it's not just me in the driver's seat. I don't want to hog all the action."
Nitku says, "Me neither, but I'm not sure if I can stay focused all the time"
DavidW asks, "Anyway, no new faces today, so shall we just jump into it?"
DavidW clears the save counter.
DavidW says (to Floyd), "load divis"
Floyd | Welcome to the Cheap Glk Implementation, library version 0.9.0. Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | You let out a deep and painful moan as you slowly realize you are Floyd | awake on a cold, tiled surface. Judging by the ache in your head and Floyd | bones, you've been hit with a lead pipe and left to rot. You grope at Floyd | your head, but you can't feel anything, not through the thick rubber Floyd | gloves you're wearing at any rate. You flop over and moan again at Floyd | the bright lights coming from the ceiling. Your arm half-heartedly Floyd | gropes around for something, and finds the metal railing of a vinyl Floyd | bed. You use it to steady your balance as you pull yourself up. You Floyd | close your eyes to help yourself adjust. Floyd | Floyd | As your vision clears and your nausea subsides you are gifted with a Floyd | very acute headache. Feeling less groggy, a sudden realization of a Floyd | deep, debilitating hunger nearly doubles you over in pain. You can't Floyd | remember how on earth this happened to you, but then retrograde Floyd | amnesia is rather common in head trauma victims. You take time to Floyd | recover your senses, then assess the situation. Floyd | Floyd | Divis Mortis: an interactive survival game. Floyd | Floyd | by lynnea dally Floyd | Floyd | Radiation Chamber Floyd | You instantly recognize the special room of the hospital you are in; Floyd | after all you've been working here for years. You can see the Floyd | delicate instruments of radiation treatment neatly positioned, ready Floyd | to use. There is a worn green vinyl bed underneath the delicate Floyd | machinery. A quick glance around also finds you a smashed glass Floyd | paperweight on the ground, which you suspect is the cause of your Floyd | massive headache. Your hunger is probably just from being knocked out Floyd | for so long. You also notice an airtight, electronic sealed door with Floyd | a large button next to it. Floyd | Floyd | You can go south to the Control Room. Floyd
Ellison arrives, ready to play with the toys. | Roger says, "What I'm trying to say here is that the stuff is delicate."
DavidW asks (of Roger), "hm?"
eladnarra arrives, ready to play with the toys.
Trumgottist gets bored and wanders off to the Toyshop.
Trumgottist arrives, ready to play with the toys.
Gerynar says (to Floyd), "x paperweight"
Floyd | >You see the shattered remnants of what formerly appeared to be a Floyd | glass paperweight. Small chunks of glass lie in a heap upon the floor Floyd | None of them are large enough to cut anything. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "x me"
Floyd | >You look at yourself and find that you're wearing a large-pocketed, Floyd | long lab coat, with thick rubber gloves and white boots to match. Floyd
Gerynar says (to Floyd), "x pockets"
Floyd | >Deep white pockets, useful for carrying things. Inside you can see Floyd | nothing. Floyd | Floyd | Searching more closely, you actually find your small good-luck compass Floyd | in one of the pockets! It will certainly prevent you from getting Floyd | lost. Floyd | | Ellison says, "I played this one in the comp, but I didn't get very far and I'm still not sure whether I ran into a bug or just gave up in frustration too soon"
DavidW says (to Floyd), "x compass"
Floyd | >A small bauble. As far as navigation goes, it's not too terribly Floyd | accurate but it can give you a general idea. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "x bed"
Floyd | >A semi-comfortable human-sized block of padding with a head pillow. Floyd | The padding is covered in vinyl for easy sanitation. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "x pillow"
Floyd | >Slightly thicker vinyl plush extending from the radiation bed in a Floyd | predictable rectangle shape. The radiation equipment seems to be Floyd | focusing on this spot. Floyd | | eladnarra asks, "what's the game~?"
DavidW says (to Floyd), "x equipment"
Floyd | >A marvel of modern machinery and medicine, they offer hope to those Floyd | who have little. This device will kill off cancer in rather precise Floyd | locations with exposure to large amounts of radiation. Unfortunately, Floyd | it kills many others things in the process. It appears to be targeting Floyd | the head pillow of the radiation bed. Perhaps the last user had a Floyd | brain tumor. It looks functional. Floyd | | DavidW says, "Divis Mortis"
Ellison says, "Divis Mortis"
eladnarra says, "aha~ I was curious about this one"
jenrexrode says (to Floyd), "x button"
Floyd | >A large, round, inviting button. You just know it does something. Floyd | Probably something with the door it is right next to. Floyd | | DavidW says, "We've just started. You only missed the intro."
DavidW says (to Floyd), "search bed"
Floyd | >There is nothing on the radiation bed. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "look under bed"
Floyd | >You find nothing of interest. Floyd | | DavidW says, "I suppose we can push the button."
eladnarra says, "cool. I got distracted by the end of rugby :D"
jenrexrode says (to Floyd), "x door"
Floyd | >An electronic door, sealed tightly to keep out radiation. There is a Floyd | large exit button clearly labeled next to the door. You can only Floyd | assume this is in case a patient panics and tries to run out. The Floyd | airtight door is closed. Floyd | Floyd | You feel weak from hunger. Floyd | | Ellison says (to eladnarra), "basically, the PC just woke up in a hospital. think 28 Days Later."
Roger says (to floyd), "x me"
Floyd | >You look at yourself and find that you're wearing a large-pocketed, Floyd | long lab coat, with thick rubber gloves and white boots to match. Floyd | | Ellison says, "28 Stats Later"
eladnarra says, "heh" | ||||
DavidW says, "I hope we don't die of hunger just because we're scoping everything out."
eladnarra says, "that would suck"
DavidW says (to Floyd), "read button"
Floyd | >A large, round, inviting button. You just know it does something. Floyd | Probably something with the door it is right next to. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "push it"
Floyd | >The airtight door slides open. Floyd | | Ellison says, "no, we will just be annoyed to death"
DavidW says (to Floyd), "s"
Floyd | > Floyd | Radiation Controls Floyd | As expected, you see a computer control system. What you did not Floyd | expect is to see are two dead bodies. The first is a woman slumped in Floyd | the northeast corner with her head blown out. The other, a desiccated Floyd | and decaying male with a coat and badge lies frozen in a crawling Floyd | motion. Your neck hair prickles, your stomach churns and your mind Floyd | reels. "Zombie," your mind whispers, but you are having trouble Floyd | believing it. The stench of the dead fills the room. Floyd | Floyd | To your dismay, you see another locked door, this time with a Floyd | cardswipe next to it. Why can't doors just be always open? After Floyd | reflecting on it for a moment, you are quite glad that these doors are Floyd | here; the barrier probably saved you from... whatever is going on Floyd | outside. You probably owe your lives to these annoying doors. Floyd | Floyd | You can go north to the Radiation Chamber or south to the First Floor Floyd | Hall. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "take badge"
Floyd | >You fight back waves of nausea. You feel as though you've seen many Floyd | dead bodies in your life, but this one will give you nightmares, if Floyd | you're ever able to sleep again. You gently remove the security badge Floyd | from his blue lab coat as if the slightest touch might wake him. His Floyd | mottled and rotting skin does not stir. Floyd | Floyd | A sharp pain from your temples almost make you cry aloud. Floyd | Floyd | [Your score has just gone up by four points.] Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "x controls"
Floyd | >A series of buttons and sliders that adjust the strength and location Floyd | of the machine. There is a large, conveniently labeled "start" Floyd | button. You can also make out instruments adjusting the angle and Floyd | intensity, but you don't want to mess with the direction or intensity Floyd | buttons. There is an emergency seal button in the very top corner. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "x woman"
Floyd | >She is a middle aged, slightly heavy woman. The name tag on her shirt Floyd | identifies her as Madelyn Grea, a senior technician. She has been shot Floyd | through the jaw, and there is a vast quantity of blood staining her Floyd | shirt and pooled on the ground around her. There is a handgun in her Floyd | right hand and cartridges surrounding her. With your amateur detective Floyd | skills, you deduce that she killed the attacking man and then took her Floyd | own life. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "take gun"
Floyd | >The dead woman's fingers are gripping the gun tightly. With a shudder Floyd | of distaste, you realize you'll have to open her hand first. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "open her hand"
Floyd | >The gun clatters from her nerveless fingers to the floor. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "take gun"
Floyd | >Taken. Floyd | Floyd | A nice slab of steak sounds perfect right now. Floyd | Floyd | You pause a moment, as your pain makes it difficult to concentrate. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "take cartridges"
Floyd | >You don't want spent bullets. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "x gun"
Floyd | >A standard 9mm handgun, as far as you can tell. The etchings Floyd | indicate that it is a Glock 17, but you're not sure what that means. Floyd | The chamber is empty. Floyd | | Roger says, "microwave corpse in giant radiation machine"
Ellison says, "set to 'popcorn'"
DavidW says, "well, that occured to me, but I don't see the point yet."
Roger says (to floyd), "take name tag"
Floyd | >You wouldn't impersonate her that well. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "x man"
Floyd | >The most disgusting corpse you believe you have ever seen. The flesh Floyd | is withered and seems to have been preserved while in the midst of Floyd | rotting. Judging by the holes in the clothes, he appears to have been Floyd | shot in the torso and head several times, but there is a distinct lack Floyd | of blood. Judging by the crooked angle of his legs, at least one had Floyd | been broken. His fingernails are peeled back, and his left arm is Floyd | outstretched towards the dead woman: grasping the floor as if he had Floyd | been crawling towards her with an intense amount of effort. Upon Floyd | closer inspection, you discover that the man is not "missing" a head, Floyd | per se, there blasted apart pieces of skull littering the room. All of Floyd | the bone fragments are covered with coagulated blood and rotting meat. Floyd | Floyd | You realize that you are looking at an actual zombie. Your heart and Floyd | breath quicken. If a person wearing a staff uniform has been infected, Floyd | then who knows the extent of the plague, and how it spreads? You are Floyd | not sure you can rely on the standard movie bite as the only mode of Floyd | transmission. It might be spread by more casual contact, or even Floyd | airborne. You resolve to survive. Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | You really want to get rid of this headache. Floyd | | DavidW says, "okay, I guess we should try to nuke him."
DavidW says (to Floyd), "take man"
Floyd | >That's disgusting. You don't want to interfere with a future police Floyd | investigation and you certainly don't want to expose yourself to Floyd | whatever disease he's got, even with protective gloves. You leave him Floyd | put. Floyd
jenrexrode says (to Floyd), "x buttons"
Floyd | >You can't see any such thing. Floyd
Roger says (to floyd), "search woman"
Floyd | >Nothing but more blood. Floyd
Roger says (to floyd), "search zombie"
Floyd | >Nothing here but internal organs. Floyd | | DavidW asks, "I suppose we continue into the hall then?"
Roger says, "Yes" | ||||
DavidW says (to Floyd), "swipe badge"
Floyd | >The door whooshes open with the wave of your plastic. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "s"
Floyd | > Floyd | First Floor Hall Floyd | You walk into a central hub of nondescript, pristinely sterile Floyd | hospital hallway. The lights flicker with the dim light of the Floyd | emergency power generator. The lack of noise sends a chill down your Floyd | spine. Where there should be doctors rushing, nurses chatting, and Floyd | patients complaining, you hear absolutely nothing. You wonder if this Floyd | building has been quarantined off or if the infection has spread Floyd | beyond it. You are thankful that there are no more signs of trouble: Floyd | no blood on the walls, no corpses on the ground. Then again, this does Floyd | make your situation more uncertain. Floyd | Floyd | You can go north to the Radiation Controls, south to the Elevator, Floyd | east to the Hospital Entry, or west to the Cafeteria. Floyd | | Roger says, "FOOOOOOd"
Roger says (to floyd), "W"
Floyd | > Floyd | Cafeteria Floyd | Where sterile halls and clean, empty rooms have dominated nearly all Floyd | of the hospital, the Cafeteria's vile stench precedes it a full Floyd | hallway in advance. The Cafeteria has been thoroughly raided. Floyd | Overturned bins of food, broken jugs of milk and other liquids have Floyd | all swirled together into a rotting pool of sludge. There are Floyd | still-sealed bottles of water that have managed to escape the ooze. Floyd | Floyd | A stove had been serving as a barricade to the kitchen, but it has Floyd | been shoved aside and overturned. You also note some blood and bloody Floyd | blunt objects. Floyd | Floyd | You can go north to the Kitchen or east to the First Floor Hall. Floyd
Trumgottist goes home.
Roger says (to floyd), "X sludge"
Floyd | >A disgusting mix of undecipherable food, liquids and now mold. Floyd | Looking around at the pooled filth you wonder why all this food was Floyd | wasted. Floyd
Roger says (to floyd), "x water"
Floyd | >(sealed bottles) Floyd | Bottles of water that are still sealed and not covered in goo. Floyd | Floyd | Your stomach rumbles in hunger. Floyd
Roger says (to floyd), "take water"
Floyd | >(the water bottle) Floyd | Water will always come in handy, and you are certain that with the Floyd | seal it is safe to drink, providing you are very careful where you put Floyd | your lips. Floyd | Floyd | [Your score has just gone up by four points.] Floyd | | Roger says, "Okay someone else go"
DavidW says (to Floyd), "x blunt objects"
Floyd | >Bloody trays, a skillet, a chair leg and even cooking utensils are Floyd | strewn about the room. They might have been marginally useful against Floyd | invading hordes, but now most of them are shattered or bent or plain Floyd | unwieldy from over-use. The skillet looks like it is in the best Floyd | condition. Floyd | Floyd | Judging by the way the blood has dried, they were used against Floyd | humans, not zombies. Floyd | Floyd | You feel weak from hunger. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "take skillet"
Floyd | > Floyd | The perfect thing for fighting off the undead and frying up some Floyd | eggs. You are certain it will come in handy for one of those things. Floyd | Floyd | [Your score has just gone up by three points.] Floyd | | DavidW asks, "Kitchen next?"
eladnarra says, "sure~"
DavidW says (to Floyd), "n"
Floyd | > Floyd | Kitchen Floyd | You now realize where all the bodies are - in the kitchen. You see Floyd | rows upon rows of neatly stacked and cleaned dead bodies, ranging from Floyd | cafeteria workers to janitors to patients and doctors, all forming a Floyd | macabre scene. Floyd | Floyd | Tearing your eyes away from the gruesome pile, you look around and Floyd | notice a chaos of canned food. That is probably what the survivors Floyd | were fighting over - the promise of eating something that is Floyd | untainted. There is also a huge stainless steel walk-in freezer, not Floyd | to mention rows of promising cabinets. In the far corner you can see Floyd | a tin trash container and a plastic blue recycling bin. Floyd | Floyd | You can go south to the Cafeteria. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "take canned food"
Floyd | >You rifle through the various cans of food and grab the nice-looking Floyd | can of chickpeas. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "open cabinets"
Floyd | >You open the cabinets, revealing a microwave. Floyd | Floyd | A nice slab of steak sounds perfect right now. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "open freezer"
Floyd | >You see dozens more bodies stacked up in a neat row; with corpses Floyd | piled several layers high. They are stacked higher towards the end, Floyd | forming a slope. While the power had been on, you were sure that the Floyd | cold had helped keep these bodies hidden and preserved. The power has Floyd | apparently been off for some time now, as many of the bodies have Floyd | started to melt into one another. Floyd | Floyd | The stench, which had been sealed off, is now overwhelming and more Floyd | repulsive than you can even imagine. Barely suppressing the urge to Floyd | vomit, faint or do both, you close the freezer and back away. As you Floyd | back away from the freezer, you stumble over one of the dead bodies, Floyd | knocking it out of line. You really hope that someone is not going to Floyd | care about that because you are too disgusted to fix it. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "look in blue bin"
Floyd | >The plastic blue recycling bin is empty. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "look in trash"
Floyd | >The tin trash container is empty. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "x bodies"
Floyd | >Someone has neatly arranged bodies into a row, with the shortest Floyd | person in the middle and taller people on either sides. They all show Floyd | signs of a bloody struggle with serious injuries - some have had their Floyd | heads bashed in, some are missing body parts or have obvious amounts Floyd | of strong internal bleeding. They have all been cleaned up as much as Floyd | possible, closed their eyes and even pushed their cheeks into a smile. Floyd | Someone put a lot of time into doing this. Floyd | Floyd | You survey them one by one. You see nobody you recognize, but perhaps Floyd | that is only because you don't remember them. It appears as though Floyd | only a few of them had actually turned; the rest seem to lack bite Floyd | marks and only have wounds from fighting. Whoever lined them up also Floyd | seems to have taken everything useful from them - they lack food, Floyd | weapons, keys, and don't even have their wallets or ID cards. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "x microwave"
Floyd | >A boxy device used to heat up things. It looks like it's a decade Floyd | old at least, and the useless power cable has been ripped out from the Floyd | back of the machine. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "open it"
Floyd | >You open the microwave but the light don't come on. In fact, none of Floyd | the lights are on. The machine is quite broken. Floyd | | DavidW says, "hm. I haven't seen a can opener."
Roger says (to floyd), "take microwave"
Floyd | >It's a useless hunk of metal. It wouldn't even be wieldy enough to Floyd | use to bludgeon. Floyd | | Roger asks, "Did we take the skillet?"
DavidW says, "Possibly the rad machine can cut it open, but it's a longshot."
DavidW says, "Yes, we took the skillet."
Roger says (to floyd), "hit can with skillet"
Floyd | >(the can of chickpeas with skillet) Floyd | Violence is never the answer, except when it comes to survival. Well, Floyd | even now, it's not really going to help. Floyd | | DavidW says, "I think we need to go elsewhere."
Roger says, "Concur" | ||||
Ellison says (to Floyd), "x can"
Floyd | >(the can of chickpeas (unclean)) Floyd | A metal can containing chickpeas. Happily for you, it is the kind you Floyd | can open without a can opener. Floyd | | eladnarra says, "hahaha"
jenrexrode says (to Floyd), "clean can"
Floyd | >(the can of chickpeas) Floyd | You achieve nothing by this. Floyd | Floyd | A collective moan arises from the rest of the city. It echoes and is Floyd | joined by more moans until a distance or origin point is simply Floyd | indeterminable. The voice of the despairing dead slowly peter out, Floyd | but their message for you remains. They are determined, and they do Floyd | not sleep, and they are always hungry, always desperate. You better Floyd | prepare your defenses. Floyd | | DavidW says, "oh"
Roger says, "Hey these aren't halal chickpeas"
Ellison says, "heh" | ||||
Roger says (to floyd), "open water"
Floyd | >You open the water bottle. Floyd | You take a small sip. Floyd | Floyd | To protect the water as best as you can, you close it tight again. Floyd | | eladnarra says, "okay, moaning is creepy..."
Roger says (to floyd), "wash can with water"
Floyd | >That's not a verb I recognise. Floyd | | DavidW says, "er, we could zap the can and maybe sterilize it."
Roger says (to floyd), "clean can with water"
Floyd | >You can't see any such thing. Floyd
Roger says (to floyd), "put water on can"
Floyd | >(the can of chickpeas (unclean)) Floyd | Putting things on the can of chickpeas (unclean) would achieve Floyd | nothing. Floyd | Floyd | Your stomach rumbles in hunger. Floyd | | Roger says, "Mmm, maybe"
Roger says, "Okay, let's go"

DavidW says (to Floyd), "push start button"
Floyd | >A beeping emanates from the door frame as the airtight door slides Floyd | itself closed. The machine hums. You hum along with it. The machine Floyd | stops humming. You have just completely sanitized a can of chickpeas. Floyd | The airtight door slides itself open. Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | You hear the faint sound of breathing and shuffling feet. You close Floyd | your eyes and hope you are mistaken. But the noise only gets louder. Floyd | In horror, you slowly turn around and are greeted by a young man Floyd | wearing a wearing a ripped, knee-length black skirt, ripped hose and a Floyd | garishly large green jacket, darkened in spots with blood. The makeup Floyd | on his face is smudged, and it's hard to tell where the lipstick ends Floyd | and the blood begins. As he stumbles towards you, you realize that he Floyd | probably didn't come from inside the hospital. The zombie's eyes seem Floyd | to fix on their newest target, and a gaping mouth opens ever-wider as Floyd | the stumbling intensifies. Floyd | Floyd | You stand your ground and prepare of battle. You have only a moment Floyd | before blood-stained jaws clamp down upon you. Floyd | | Roger says, "Oh man, zombie transvestites"
Roger says, "Or tranvestite zombies. Either way."
DavidW says (to Floyd), "hit zombie with skillet"
Floyd | >(zombie crossdresser with skillet) Floyd | Wielding your best weapon (the skillet) you charge and scream as you Floyd | run towards the crossdresser, putting all your force into a Floyd | beautifully-arched swing. The metal makes contact with the skull, and Floyd | you hear the crackling of bone as blood spurts of blood fly around Floyd | you. As the body of the former person falls to the ground, the blood Floyd | around the skull wound and splattered onto the frying pan clots almost Floyd | instantly. The handle to the skillet breaks and is torn from your Floyd | hand by the force. You duck your head away to minimize contact with Floyd | flying debris. Floyd | Floyd | The now broken skillet clatters to the ground. You'd better find a Floyd | real weapon. Despite the racket, no more zombies come, and you can Floyd | only assume you were lucky enough that they simply didn't hear. You Floyd | slump in a corner, and quiver for minutes before being able to so much Floyd | as stand again. Floyd

Ellison says, "will" | ||||
DavidW says (to Floyd), "eat can"
Floyd | >You scarf the vegetables down, eager to have something to eat at Floyd | last. You hardly feel satisfied at all, and even a little queasy. Floyd | You recall hearing about the difficulties people have eating after Floyd | long bouts of starvation. Or maybe you just never liked chickpeas. Floyd | You feel an unusual craving for some meatloaf, but at least your Floyd | hunger pains are satiated. Floyd | Floyd | [Your score has just gone up by four points.] Floyd

DavidW says (to Floyd), "x transvestite"
Floyd | >He was a sort of crossdresser, and a darned good one at that too. If Floyd | it wasn't for his (now bloody) adam's apple and lanky walk, you'd have Floyd | mistaken him for a woman. His skirt, already short, is ripped. One Floyd | of his shoes fell off, and his bright green jacket has been covered in Floyd | blood. His makeup was nice, but his face has been completely Floyd | destroyed. Floyd

Floyd | > Floyd | Parking Lot Floyd | An open and sprawling patch of asphalt packed with cars. Many have Floyd | been broken into and a few have crashed. The fog is so thick that you Floyd | cannot see more than one area of the lot at a time. You can hear Floyd | afflicted people shuffling around between rows of cars. You can see Floyd | your Volvo with a zombified occupant trapped inside, clawing at the Floyd | window, unsure how to open the door. Floyd | Floyd | It looks like somebody tried to take advantage of your habit of Floyd | leaving the car unlocked, but turned before getting the chance to Floyd | escape. It probably wouldn't have done her any good anyway, you have Floyd | no idea where your keys ended up, and a car would attract lots of Floyd | attention, until it ran out of gas. Floyd | >(the Volvo car) Floyd | A rather normal looking Volvo wagon: it appears as if the car thief... Floyd | turned while relaxing or hiding or trying to drive away in your car, Floyd | you're not sure which. The occupant is now clawing at the window, Floyd | staring through with glassy eyes, unable to figure a way out. It Floyd | doesn't look like she has your keys, and they're not in the ignition. Floyd | You worry about her being able to break the window or claw the door Floyd | handle open, so you do your best to keep your distance and hide. DavidW says (to Floyd), "open trunk"
Floyd | >The hinges on the door squeak loudly as you swing the trunk up and Floyd | open. You notice that inside the trunk is a toolbox. More Floyd | importantly at the moment, however is the fact that zombified occupant Floyd | hears and twists her head to see. She hisses and claws at the seats. Floyd | You feel confident that the seat belt will hold her in place until you Floyd | hear a snap. It appears the woman was more injured than you initially Floyd | assessed; she had a large part of her midsection missing. Lacking Floyd | internal organs, or pesky connecting tissue, the change in pressure Floyd | from her turning to look at you has snapped her spine. Floyd | Floyd | Leaving her legs in the seat and pulling up on the shoulders of the Floyd | seats, she heaves her torso through the car. For a moment positions Floyd | herself between the two seats, staring at you and the newly developed Floyd | exit. She hesitates for a moment. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "shoot zombie"
Floyd | >You steady your aim and fire. You haven't ever had much practice, Floyd | but you apparently have great aim at such close range. You shoot the Floyd | zombie square in the head. She reels back with a screech and flops Floyd | down, completely incapacitated. Floyd | Floyd | The sound of the gunshot echoes loudly through the parking lot, Floyd | breaking the silence. No birds fly up, but the sound of the vengeful Floyd | dead does. You hear one moan, then another and another from the mist. Floyd | The sound of aimless shuffling increases, only now it doesn't seem Floyd | quite so aimless. Floyd | Floyd | [Your score has just gone up by four points.] Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "take toolbox"
Floyd | >Taken. Floyd | Floyd | You hear deep and anguished moans fill the air from all around you. You tip it Floyd | over so that the top is pressing against the glass doors. The doors Floyd | try to swing open inward, but they make it only a few inches before Floyd | being effectively stopped. Floyd | Floyd | Unfortunately, the loud noise so close to the entrance has attracted Floyd | a lot of attention; the undead press in against the entry, Floyd | lethargically banging at the glass doors. More keep coming. Some Floyd | attempt to climb through, and fail. It would be difficult for any Floyd | zombies to get in, but you feel uneasy. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "push table to door"

Floyd | >To your surprise, you find a young man in his twenties gagged and Floyd | chained up to an especially sturdy pipe; he silently recoils at the Floyd | sight of you, not even daring to whimper. Tears flow down his dirtied Floyd | face and stick to his ear-length sandy blonde hair. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "untie man"
Floyd | >(the young man) Floyd | Fumbling through the keys with your thick gloves, you find a small key Floyd | that looks like a good candidate and walk forward to unlock his Floyd | chains. He relaxes Floyd | slightly and sits still as you jam the key into the padlock and hear Floyd | the comforting click. He rips off his gag and throws the duct tape Floyd | away, gasping in pain. He immediately slumps into a relieved mass and Floyd | whispers out a "thank you." Floyd | Floyd | He then stares up at you with the sweetest, heart-warming smile. You are pretty sure safety is on the way.
DavidW says (to Floyd), "ask man about old man"
Floyd | >(the young man about that) Floyd | "I came into the hospital seeking refuge. He invited me to he safe Floyd | zone, and was very friendly, even gave me some food. I still had my Floyd | own, so I told him he could keep it. Then he, he I dunno he Floyd | switched." You can see the horror in his eyes. "He started mumbling Floyd | about order and shoved me through this hole, when I saw all the bodies Floyd | I tried to run, but he just tackled me and slammed my head hard. I Floyd | woke up chained, and heard him cursing at the barricade.". Floyd | Floyd | You hear shouts coming from the other side of the barricade, warning Floyd | you to stay away from the entrance. The young man stands up and turns Floyd | to you. "Listen, I'm not entirely sure what's going on, but it's sure Floyd | as hell they won't know either. You're in danger, you're likely to be Floyd | blamed. They won't..." he falters, tears brimming as he wipes them Floyd | away. "They won't attack me" he tells you, less than confidently. Floyd | "because I look like a victim." Floyd | Floyd | You glance at his wrists, and the tale they immediately tell. The Floyd | rows of bodies sure do look bad. Your fellow companion walks towards Floyd | the file cabinets and orders you to stay where you are. You try to Floyd | object, but he hears none of it. Floyd
DavidW says (to Floyd), "tell man about cancer"
Floyd | >(the young man about that) Floyd | There is no reply. Floyd | Floyd | Suddenly, the top file cabinet is wrenched back and a S.W.A.T. member Floyd | runs through the top pile of doors. After only glancing at the pile Floyd | of bodies, he swings his rifle up at you. "What the hell is going Floyd | on." he demands. Shock and adrenaline pump through you. Your eyes Floyd | widen and your nostrils flare. You automatically switch to a Floyd | combative stance and an image of pouncing him and disarming him of Floyd | that rifle briefly flashes through your mind. Floyd | Floyd | Luckily, your companion has better kept his wits about him, and he Floyd | immediately intervenes: stepping into the line of fire and telling how Floyd | you saved him from a crazed survivor. He explains that the crazed Floyd | survivor was the one who killed everyone trying to contain the Floyd | infection. More S.W.A.T. members pour in and similarly aim their Floyd | weapons at you. None are aiming at your companion. You're now Floyd | effectively surrounded by your supposed rescuers. Floyd | Floyd | Uncertain, the S.W.A.T. member yells at you to drop your gun, and Floyd | points his assault rifle at you with more vigor. Floyd | | DavidW asks, "Do we drop the gun?"
Ellison says, "sure" | ||||
Roger says, "I would" | ||||
DavidW says (to Floyd), "drop gun"
Floyd | >You drop the handgun. The S.W.A.T. member visibly relaxes. Floyd | Floyd | After complying with their orders, the members of the S.W.A.T. remain Floyd | uncertain. They radio for backup. One of the team members cautiously Floyd | walks up to you. "Do you know... who... what you are?" Confused, all Floyd | you can do is shake your head. One of the other members starts Floyd | digging through a pack and procures a tactical mirror, handing it Floyd | over. Hesitantly, you look at yourself in the mirror. Your skin is Floyd | mottled and was decomposing at some point, but now has a weathered, Floyd | preserved look. There is a rather large gash on your forehead that Floyd | has been bandaged. Helplessly you stare at the reflection you want Floyd | not to be your own, but that matches you at every turn. You drop the Floyd | mirror and start to cry. No tears come; you are physically incapable. Floyd | Floyd | The young man whom you saved sees your distress, comes over and Floyd | embraces you, not caring that his skin touches yours. The guns are Floyd | all lowered and you hear a cacophony of clicks. Radiation kills the Floyd | neuro-virus, and you realize the significance of you waking up in a Floyd | radiation chamber. Noticing that you are lost in your thoughts, you Floyd | glance around at a room of confused S.W.A.T members. Taking advantage Floyd | of the uncertainty, you dramatically rise up, "I am an infected who Floyd | has been to madness and back and I can save them all." A bit Floyd | cheesier than you had intended, but it gets the job done. Floyd | Floyd | You guide the hesitant doctors and scientist through the hospital's Floyd | notes. Thanks to you, the infection policy is changed after a week. Floyd | While people's sanities are restored, their skin maintains the same Floyd | pale, mottled and rotting look. The legal status of the new undead Floyd | becomes annoyingly uncertain as intolerance finds its newest schism. Floyd | You become a poster child for zombie tolerance, equality and reason, Floyd | starting a new non-profit organization designed to fight legal Floyd | discrimination. Floyd | Floyd | Your wound never heals and your hair never grows out, and to the Floyd | chagrin of the vegetarian inside you, all you can eat is meat. The Floyd | young man you rescued, Mark Cayman, remains a true friend and ally in Floyd | the fight for zombie equality.
