Floyd ] Basic instructions Floyd | In order to successfully interact with David, whether with speech or Floyd | violence or a combination of these, you will need to use several Floyd | game-specific verbs. Violence is easy: just attack a person. Floyd | You may need to ready or reload a weapon first. Violence Floyd | is also essential, since hitting David repeatedly will make him lose Floyd | the stomach for a fight. Floyd | Floyd | However, you are wounded, lying on the ground, and overall in very bad Floyd | shape. To have any chance to hit, you will need to think Floyd | (synonyms: concentrate and c); the more often you think Floyd | without losing your train of thought, the better your chances of Floyd | hitting, and hitting well, become. Also, a high tension (shown in the Floyd | status bar) helps a lot. Finally, standing up will increase Floyd | your combat skills, but it will also make David more likely to attack Floyd | you. Floyd | Floyd | Your main conversational strategies are placate, which may Floyd | temporarily get David to listen to you; and explain. Explaining Floyd | is very powerful, since it will gain you sympathy; but you can only Floyd | explain yourself after David has asked a question. Floyd | Floyd | In the unfortunate case that David decides to attack you, you can Floyd | defend yourself in three ways. If you taunt David, his anger Floyd | may make him miss, and it also makes him an easier target for your Floyd | next attack. However, it will make him less likely to talk in the Floyd | future. Alternatively, you can attempt to dodge his attacks. Floyd | There is also the powerful appeal, which you can use to implore Floyd | David not to attack. It probably won't work unless you have already Floyd | explained yourself quite a bit. Floyd | Floyd | For your convenience, all the special actions you can take (except Floyd | attacking, readying and reloading) are shown in the status bar at the Floyd | top of the window. Most common interactive fiction verbs still work, Floyd | and some important ones (examine, look, inventory) can be done freely Floyd | -- they don't take a turn! One final remark.
