Floyd ] Beach Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | You were reluctant to undertake another adventure with Professor Floyd | d'Squarius, especially after the last near-catastrophe. Escaping from Floyd | the Tomb of the Screaming Mummies had been treacherous enough, but Floyd | then to have to go back inside because the professor lost his keys in Floyd | some snake pit? Frankly, you had begun to question whether his Floyd | treasure hunts were worth it. Floyd | Floyd | But the professor spoke persuasively about this new quest -- "for Floyd | untold riches!" he claimed -- and, in the end, you agreed to join the Floyd | expedition. Since then, things have gone exactly the way they always Floyd | do: horribly. Floyd | Floyd | You tried to tell the professor that bringing a harpoon into an Floyd | inflatable lifeboat was a bad idea. But, like always, he dismissed Floyd | your objections with the usual "you're just the teenage sidekick" Floyd | line. And now YOU are the one stranded on a remote tropical island Floyd | with no clear way of getting back to civilization. Floyd | Floyd | And the amazing treasure you were originally seeking? The professor Floyd | never explained precisely what it was. The beach extends to Floyd | the southeast, and a path to the west leads into the rainforest. Floyd | Floyd | The flat husk of a once-inflatable lifeboat has washed up nearby. Floyd | Floyd | >
Jacqueline says (to Floyd), "x me"
Floyd ] Beach Floyd | > Floyd | > X ME Floyd | Floyd | You are the young assistant to Professor Edsger d'Squarius, Floyd | adventurer-archaeologist. Floyd | Floyd | You and the professor have been through a lot together. You bravely Floyd | charted the Grave of the Headless Vikings (at least until the swamp Floyd | gases started to make you hallucinate). You ventured into the secret Floyd | network of catacombs beneath Stonehenge in search of the Lost Codex of Floyd | Zethar the Druid (it's still lost; you never found it). You have even Floyd | seen the summit of Mount Everest (from a distance). Floyd | Floyd | And every time the professor has gotten into some bizarre or dangerous Floyd | predicament (which is most of the time), you've been there to bail him Floyd | out. Floyd | Floyd | > | Teaspoon says, "We must be pretty desperate for that summer extra-credit, or whatever it is that we're chasing after this pprofessor for."
Teaspoon says (to Floyd), "i"

Teaspoon says (to Floyd), "x whistle"
Floyd ] Beach Floyd | > Floyd | > X WHISTLE Floyd | Floyd | The silver emergency whistle hangs from a nylon lanyard that you are Floyd | wearing around your neck. Floyd | Floyd | The whistle was one piece of emergency equipment that the professor Floyd | put you in charge of (the other was the emergency beacon, which seems Floyd | to be missing). Floyd | Floyd | > | Jacqueline says, "Since we have some new folks: unless we designate a driver, anyone can enter commands. You do that by prefacing the command with F. Like F X ME."
hzomb says, "blow whistle"
Teaspoon says (to Floyd), "blow whistle"
Floyd ] Beach Floyd | > Floyd | > BLOW WHISTLE Floyd | Floyd | The shrill sound of the emergency whistle is both loud and irritating. Floyd | Floyd | >

Floyd ] Beach Floyd | > Floyd | > LOOK Floyd | Floyd | Beach Floyd | You are on a deserted beach, alone except for the salty breeze, the Floyd | waves splashing rhythmically on the sand, and a single palm tree that Floyd | provides very little shade from the harsh sun. The beach extends to Floyd | the southeast, and a path to the west leads into the rainforest. Floyd | Floyd | The flat husk of a once-inflatable lifeboat has washed up nearby. Floyd | Floyd | > | Jacqueline says, "The one rule on that is that you can't change location unless you ask the group first."
Teaspoon says (to Floyd), "get lifeboat"
Floyd ] Beach Floyd | > Floyd | > GET LIFEBOAT Floyd | Floyd | The deflated lifeboat has outlived all usefulness. There's no point in Floyd | carrying it around. Floyd | Floyd | >
Teaspoon says (to Floyd), "search lifeboat"
Floyd ] Beach Floyd | > Floyd | > SEARCH LIFEBOAT Floyd | Floyd | You find nothing of interest. Floyd | Floyd | > | hzomb says, "And don't type commands too fast."
Teaspoon says, "oh, sorry"
Jacqueline says, "Hm, true."
Jacqueline says, "I guess there are a couple of rules. :)"
Teaspoon says (to Floyd), "x tree"
Floyd ] Beach Floyd | > Floyd | > X TREE Floyd | Floyd | The smooth trunk of the palm tree stretches up about twenty feet and Floyd | ends in a fan of wide, green leaves. Floyd | Floyd | > | Jacqueline says, "I was hoping there'd be stuff in the lifeboat."
Jacqueline asks, "Also, where is our prof?"
hzomb asks, "Can we get in the lifeboat?"
Teaspoon says (to Floyd), "climb tree"
Floyd ] Beach Floyd | > Floyd | > CLIMB TREE Floyd | Floyd | You're quite skilled at climbing trees -- and it's a good thing. When Floyd | the professor was captured by the Cannibal Warriors, you scrambled up Floyd | a tree and avoided detection. Later (but still before brunch!) you Floyd | climbed down and helped the professor escape. Floyd | Floyd | Unfortunately, climbing this particular tree doesn't yield any new Floyd | information. You climb back down. Floyd | Floyd | > | Teaspoon says, "I wonder if this will be a useful skill later"
Teaspoon says (to Floyd), "swim"
Floyd ] Beach Floyd | > Floyd | > SWIM Floyd | Floyd | You and the professor once traveled in search of the Ukrainian Falcon, Floyd | a golden bird encrusted from beak to claw with the rarest jewels. The Floyd | professor learned that it had been left behind in the exclusion zone Floyd | around the Chernobyl nuclear reactor. You journeyed up the Pripyat Floyd | River, but you had to turn around when your boat was attacked by a Floyd | school of giant, phosphorescent catfish. Floyd | Floyd | Since then, you've avoided recreational swimming. Floyd | Floyd | > | Teaspoon says, "er"
Jacqueline says, "heh"
Teaspoon asks, "are there catfish in Russia?"

Jacqueline says (to Floyd), "xyzzy"
Floyd ] Beach Floyd | > Floyd | > XYZZY Floyd | Floyd | You recall a different tropical archipelago, far from here, which you Floyd | and the professor traversed in hope of finding the Chachapoyan Floyd | Fertility Idol. After that, whenever he needed a vacation, the Floyd | professor would sometimes go back to Zabba, Deffe, Hijji, Noppo, and Floyd | Tuvvu (and sometimes Xyzzy). Floyd | Floyd | >

Jacqueline says (to Floyd), "se"
Floyd ] Tide Pool Floyd | > Floyd | > SE Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | Tide Pool Floyd | This part of the beach probably floods completely when the tide comes Floyd | in: all the sand has been washed away and only large rocks remain. Floyd | Their many pockets and indentations are filled with pools of seawater. Floyd | The beach becomes more sandy to the northwest and to the west, a large Floyd | crack in the rocks leads down into a dark cave. Floyd | Floyd | A reddish-brown crab scuttles from pool to pool, its pointy legs Floyd | clicking faintly on the stones. Floyd | Floyd | There is a long plastic tube here. It must have been left behind the Floyd | last time the tide went out. Floyd | Floyd | > | Jacqueline says, "ooh"
Teaspoon says (to Floyd), "get tube"
Floyd ] Tide Pool Floyd | > Floyd | > GET TUBE Floyd | Floyd | Taken. Floyd | Floyd | > | Teaspoon says, "we have a POSSESSION"
Ghogg arrives, full of funk, but no fun. | hzomb says, "ah we meet our first npc"
Teaspoon says (to Floyd), "x tube"
Floyd ] Tide Pool Floyd | > Floyd | > X TUBE Floyd | Floyd | The long, waterproof tube has a tight-fitting cap. Large documents, Floyd | like blueprints and maps, can be rolled up and slid inside for Floyd | protection. Floyd | Floyd | > | Jacqueline says, "f open tube"
Jacqueline says, "er" | ||
Jacqueline says (to Floyd), "open tube"
Floyd ] Tide Pool Floyd | > Floyd | > OPEN TUBE Floyd | Floyd | You open the waterproof case, revealing the professor's treasure map! Floyd | Floyd | When the pirates were starting to close in, you tried to convince the Floyd | professor that you should be the one to carry both the map and the Floyd | key. Instead, the professor took the map himself and, inexplicably, Floyd | tied the key to Aziz's leg. He put you in charge of the emergency kit: Floyd | the whistle (which you're wearing) and the beacon (which seems to be Floyd | missing). Floyd | Floyd | The fact that the map case has washed up on the beach might indicate Floyd | bad news for the professor, maybe even worse than that time he was Floyd | almost devoured by man-eating spiders in the Shrine of the Cursed Floyd | Knights. Floyd | Floyd | > | Ghogg says, "this one's perfect for clubfloyding, I'd say"
Jacqueline says, "Oh? Excellent."
hzomb says, "Yeah it's a lot of fun."
Teaspoon asks, "who's aziz?"
Teaspoon says (to Floyd), "read map"
Floyd ] Tide Pool Floyd | > Floyd | > READ MAP Floyd | Floyd | (first removing the map from the waterproof case) Floyd | The sheet of yellowing parchment shows the outline of an island, Floyd | hand-drawn in black ink. Most of the terrain is just sketched in, but Floyd | the northwest region is mapped out in great detail and shows some Floyd | unusual red symbols. Floyd | Floyd | It looks a little like the map the professor had that time you drove a Floyd | dog sled through the arctic in search of the lost city of Floyd | Tuktuyaaqtuuq. That's probably just a coincidence, though. Floyd | Floyd | > | hzomb says (to Teaspoon), "just an incidental character I think."
Teaspoon says (to Floyd), "x symbols"
Floyd ] Tide Pool Floyd | > Floyd | > X SYMBOLS Floyd | Floyd | The symbols in the northwest region of the map are drawn in red ink. Floyd | (At least, you think it's red ink?) They depict a face looking Floyd | directly west at a seven-pointed star. Floyd | Floyd | > | Jacqueline says, "Jason sure came up with a ton of adventures."
hzomb asks, "What if it's blood?"
Teaspoon says, "or ketchup"
Jacqueline says, "Dried blood isn't really communicable most of the time."
Jacqueline says, "I think we'll be okay."
hzomb says, "So our first puzzle/clue."
Teaspoon says, "anyway it doens't stay red very long"
Teaspoon says, "goes sort of brownish"
Jacqueline says, "True"
Teaspoon says (to Floyd), "x crab"
Floyd ] Tide Pool Floyd | > Floyd | > X CRAB Floyd | Floyd | It's hard to read the facial expression on a crab, but it doesn't seem Floyd | very happy to see you. Floyd | Floyd | >

Floyd ] About "Untold Riches" Floyd | Untold Riches has been developed for use during the 2015-2016 school Floyd | year as part of an interdisciplinary curriculum for the middle grades Floyd | on computer programming and creative writing. Floyd | Floyd | Gameplay design principles were derived from the rules of Floyd | IFBeginnersComp ([LINK]), in Floyd | particular: (1) The initial goal should be clear from early on. (2) Floyd | The puzzles should be fair and well-clued. (3) The world should be Floyd | thoroughly implemented (no unwinnable states, good coverage of scenery Floyd | and synonyms). Floyd | Floyd | Implementation design principles were based on the idea that the Floyd | source code will be discussed as novice programmers learn to create Floyd | their own games. The code should therefore aim to build game elements Floyd | using the simplest implementation and as much "entry level" Inform 7 Floyd | functionality as possible.
