Jacqueline asks, "Theatre People by Michael Kielstra?"
Doug says, "haven't played it"
Jacqueline asks, "Anyone already played it?"
DavidW says, "I've barely woken up. I haven't played Theatre People yet."
BrianK says, "I have not played it"
Jacqueline says (to Floyd), "load sleepmask theatrepeople"
Floyd ] Left Wing Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | Another openin', another show -- and everybody gets applause but you. Floyd | It's been fun, but you wish that the audience and, especially, the Floyd | actors would recognize your contribution to the production. It takes Floyd | a lot of skill to push the scenery into place! Floyd | Floyd | Theatre People Floyd | An Interactive Fiction by 13Clocks Floyd | Release 1 / Serial number 160922 / Inform 7 build 6M62 (I6/v6.33 lib Floyd | 6/12N) Floyd | Floyd | Left Wing Floyd | The stage left wing is your home away from home. It's full of props Floyd | that will be required onstage if the show ever starts. South is the Floyd | left stage corridor, and east is that most glamorous of areas, the Floyd | stage. Floyd | Floyd | Mandy looks you up and down with the gaze she reserves for Floyd | insignificant insects and junior tech crew members. "The curtain's Floyd | not going up. Find out what's wrong." Floyd | Floyd | You can see Mandy here. Floyd | Floyd | > | Teaspoon says, "Have fun all."
Jacqueline says, "Thanks, Tsp."
Jacqueline says, "Have a good evening."
Teaspoon teleports home to the sound of tortured piano strings. | Doug asks, "shall I paste the blurb?"
BrianK says, "Sure, I'd like to see the blurb"
Jacqueline says, "Sure"
Doug | Theatre People | ||
Doug | A game about curtains, among other things.
Doug | Michael Kielstra | ||
Doug | The dazzle of the theatre: the footlights, the bows, the adoring crowd! It's your job, as a tech crew member, to make sure that the actors and, especially, the actresses, get enough of that. Not for you the ten-minute standing ovation; your lot is to deal with pushy stage managers, issues with the fly tower, and a bartender who, no matter what, flat-out refuses to give you free drinks. Even when you could really use one. Especially when you could really use one...
Doug | Maybe, just maybe, this could be your ticket to the big time. You could single-handedly get the production back on its feet, win the praise and adulation of all, and, possibly, even aid a damsel in distress. Alternatively, you could do your job quietly, stay out of peoples' way, and have no reward but the quiet smugness of an underrated worker. Fame, glory, and a trek in search of rope await!
Lionheart arrives, full of fun, but no funk. | Jacqueline asks, "So I guess our first thing is to figure out why the curtain's not going up, but before the first thing, >I and >X ME?"

Jacqueline says, "Excellent. I am glad we are not having a bad hair day."
Doug presses the yellow enter button.
Floyd ] Introduction to Theatre People Floyd | This game grew out of my experiences crewing amateur productions in Floyd | various theatres. Due to my inexperience, I was always the Floyd | least-respected team member. The game really started to grow in my Floyd | mind when I realised that some of my ideas were better than the Floyd | current best ideas but that no-one would really listen to me. I Floyd | worked out the plot and the puzzles during the intervals of two Floyd | performances and went home to write it! Floyd | Floyd | I have enjoyed interactive fiction for a long time, and this game is Floyd | inspired in large part by The People's Glorious Revolutionary Text Floyd | Adventure Game, by Taylor Vaughan. In particular, the way that the Floyd | puzzles are set up owes much to that superb piece of work. I played a Floyd | lot of IF before I decided to write any, and this is, among other Floyd | things, my way of giving back to a community which has provided me Floyd | with so many hours of fun and adventure. Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | Please press SPACE to continue. | DavidW says, "sorry, I wasn't here. I was in the bathroom."
Jacqueline says, "Ha! I wondered if this was written by a disgruntled stagehand."
Doug pushes the green 'space' button.

DavidW says, "I think this is too fast for me with my current brain."

DavidW asks, "who?" | ||

Doug says, "take the wheel!"
BrianK says, "Go for it"
DavidW says, "Well, the fly tower will be up above the stage."

Floyd ] Left Stage Corridor Floyd | > Floyd | > S Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | Left Stage Corridor Floyd | This corridor leads to the stage left wing, due north. BrianK says, "Well, there it is"
DavidW says, "oh look. stairs to the fly tower."

DavidW says (to Floyd), "ask rich about rope"
Floyd ] Fly Tower Floyd | > Floyd | > ASK RICH ABOUT ROPE Floyd | Floyd | "I don't know what happened, exactly -- maybe the rope was faulty. BrianK says (to Floyd), "ask rich about mandy"

Doug says, "maybe we'll have to use the rope to TIE FLOWER TO FLY TOWER. ...wait, this isn't an Andrew Schultz game"
Doug says (to Floyd), "x rich"
Floyd ] Fly Tower Floyd | > Floyd | > X RICH Floyd | Floyd | Rich has never been known to fail to pull the right rope at the right Floyd | time. If you give him something to hang from the ceiling, it will Floyd | hang from the ceiling. Your sole ally in the fight against Floyd | unremarkability, he has always liked you and the feeling is mutual. Floyd | Floyd | > | DavidW says, "I think this is gonna be the store is locked and we have to get the key from Alan and Alan will want a screwdriver and the screwdriver will come from Sandy etc."
Jacqueline says (to Doug), "No, I was trying to use Scapple. Good for mapping text and dialog, but not so much for maps. Switching to Dia."
Doug says, "Good Guy Rich."

Doug asks, "stick with the plan, or investigate?"
BrianK says, "I vote investigate"
DavidW says, "I say stick with the plan for now. I'm sure we'll investigate eventually."
BrianK says, "We need a tiebreaker :P"
Doug asks, "actually, by 'other side of the theater', I took that as other side of the stage, but maybe we have to go out through the seats and stuff?"
BrianK says, "I think it might just be the right side"
Doug says, "I say let's not let Mandy & Rich down, and find the rope"
Peregrine arrives, full of fun, but no funk.
Doug says (to Floyd), "e"
Floyd ] Right Stage Corridor Floyd | > Floyd | > E Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | Right Stage Corridor Floyd | Here, at least, both sides of the theatre are equal.
