ClubFloyd Transcript:
The idea behind ClubFloyd is that each
week at a pre-arranged time, a group of
people meet online to cooperatively play
a game of interactive fiction.
ANOTHER WARNING! A lot (most!) of the transcripts contained on this site are, shall we say, family-friendly. This is not one of those family-friendly transcripts. Just so we're clear. |

Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | Your head is killing you. Pain stings your brain like a thousand Floyd | burning needles as you struggle to your feet, trying to remember just Floyd | what happened. Bandits were swarming you, and you felt you had to take Floyd | a dangerous action - hitting the ground with your staff, while it Floyd | stored a thunder spell. Every arcanist knows to avoid using a staff Floyd | this way unless you take precautions. Floyd | Right, precautions. Your circlet is storing a healing spell right now, Floyd | so that helps, but it didn't help enough. Said circlet and the clothes Floyd | on your person are the only things left of your possessions. They Floyd | surely did seem valueless to the bandits, not knowing enough about the Floyd | arcane to remove the circlet from a seemingly mortally-wounded Floyd | arcanist. Floyd ] Health 5/20; Wealth 0 copper; Down in the Dumps Floyd | > Floyd | > ABOUT Floyd | Floyd | Intro to Implements of the Arcane Floyd | An Interactive Fiction by Oliver Frank Floyd | Release 1 / Serial number 180721 / Inform 7 build 6L38 (I6/v6.33 lib Floyd | 6/12N) Floyd | Standard Rules version 3/120430 by Graham Nelson Floyd | Extended Grammar version 8/140501 by Aaron Reed Floyd | Floyd | Intro to Implements of the Arcane is a fantasy interactive fiction Floyd | game. This is the IntroComp version, meaning that it is incomplete, Floyd | ending after a relatively short time. You are an arcanist, a type of Floyd | mage, who has been attacked by bandits. While you managed to fend off Floyd | many with a risky move, more of them were there to rob you blind while Floyd | you were unconscious. They left you for dead with nothing more than Floyd | your clothes and a seemingly worthless wooden circlet. Floyd | This circlet though is the reason you are still alive - it is an Floyd | implement of the arcane, an object that functions while holding a Floyd | spell. The circlet in particular provides its spell's effect to you - Floyd | and the circlet currently holds a healing spell. Floyd | The arcane, or arcanism, is a class of magic that holds the reputation Floyd | of being the most destructive, but it has become the most Floyd | self-destructive over the centuries. You had hoped to reach an ancient Floyd | ruin that supposedly holds powerful implements of the arcane from an Floyd | older age. These might help elevate arcanism from the sorry state it Floyd | has fallen to, and even expand beyond just being "destructive." Floyd | Over the course of the game, you need to find a new set of basic Floyd | implements and spells to survive the challenges ahead of you. Managing Floyd | which spells are held in which implements will be an important task to Floyd | overcome obstacles and foes, and you will need to learn the Floyd | limitations and features of what you have to effectively do so. Floyd | This is my second released game, the first being Finish your Foe!, Floyd | released as part of the Eleventh Hour New Year's minicomp. Floyd | Floyd | Intro to Implements of the Arcane uses several nonstandard verbs that Floyd | you really should know. The game will try to tell you about them over Floyd | the course of the story, but for convenience, they will be listed here Floyd | as well. Floyd | Floyd | CREDITS wil show you the banner text, the extensions used in Intro to Floyd | Implements of the Arcane, and most importantly, will show the testers Floyd | for the game. Floyd | Floyd | SEARCH (an object) - while search is a standard verb, it is often seen Floyd | as the same as EXAMINE. This is not the case here - search is a more Floyd | thorough task, often involving touch, where examine is primarily Floyd | vision. Searching is not vital, but it can yield useful results. Floyd | TALK TO (a person) - You can talk to anyone you meet. Most people Floyd | won't have a whole lot to say, but in some cases, you will enter a Floyd | conversation mode where you are presented with a list of questions to Floyd | ask, and can type the corresponding number to ask that question. Floyd | THINK ABOUT (a topic) - As a fantasy game, you will encounter terms Floyd | you are unfamiliar with, but which the protagonist knows. You can Floyd | think about these things and learn about them. Don't restrain yourself Floyd | to unfamiliar term, either - fantasic beings you know about might be Floyd | slightly different from what you expect. Finally, a few topics you Floyd | know about can change as you learn more about them and the world Floyd | around you. Floyd | SHIFT (spell) TO (implement) - As you find implements and spells, you Floyd | will find the need to move spells from one implement to another to Floyd | better utilize them. To do so, you need to shift the spell to the Floyd | implement it should end up in. For example, you could say SHIFT Floyd | HEALING TO TOME once you have the tome (though you probably should Floyd | keep the healing spell in the circlet for the time being). Floyd | POINT AT (target) / POINT WAND AT (target) - With this command, you Floyd | point at the target, though you'll need a wand holding a spell for Floyd | this to be useful. Floyd | HIT GROUND / HIT GROUND WITH STAFF - If you have a staff holding a Floyd | spell, this will activate the spell. If not, you're just pointlessly Floyd | stomping the ground. Floyd | WIELD (a weapon) - If you carry a weapon, you should wield it to Floyd | improve your combat performance. Floyd | PUSH (an enemy) - Pushing an enemy can cause them to lose their Floyd | balance. This may help RETREATing if you fear the enemy may hit you Floyd | when you flee. Floyd | Floyd | > | Knight_Otu says, "Sorry for the text dumps."

Floyd ] Health 5/20; Wealth 0 copper; Dirt Road Floyd | > Floyd | > U Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | Dirt Road Floyd | This dirt road more aligns with your last memories of your Floyd | surroundings. What is new is the strewn-about corpses of about ten Floyd | bandits, clearly already picked clean of their weapons and valuables. Floyd | This was presumably done by their surviving comrades - perhaps you Floyd | ought to alert the authorities of a nearby settlement? The road runs Floyd | north to south, and is bounded east and west by nasty-looking thorn Floyd | bushes. You know that, not too far to the south, lies a village, but Floyd | you don't know what exactly lies to the north beyond a city and a Floyd | mountain range - you were exploring in the hope of finding ancient Floyd | implements, and maybe new spells. While that is a higher priority now Floyd | than it was before, maybe if you can find some money you could get Floyd | some more gear to the south. Not to mention that what might be the Floyd | footprints of the remaining bandits lead north. Floyd | Not for the first time you notice how broad this road is. Even with Floyd | the hole to the eastern side, a typical ox cart still has a Floyd | comfortable amount of space to maneuver. It might still be enough for Floyd | two carts, even. Floyd | Floyd | Discarded by your assailants as if it were junk, your tome lies in the Floyd | dirt. Floyd | Floyd | Maybe overlooked by the bandits, you see a copper coin sticking out of Floyd | the dirt. Floyd | Floyd | As it seems, you can go north, south and down (to Down in the Dumps) Floyd | from here. Floyd | Floyd | ... Floyd | Floyd | Wait, your tome is lying there? Praise to Ashnar! Needless to say, you Floyd | eagerly grab it up. Floyd | Floyd | Taken! Floyd | Floyd | Quickly, you open it... and freeze. Where the fire spell should rest, Floyd | blank space stares back at you. In a panic, you leaf through the rest Floyd | of the book. Ice, gone. Laughter, eradicated. All the spells that Floyd | should be lying dormant in your tome, set free. That is the only Floyd | explanation. How would a bandit know how to do this, but not know that Floyd | a circlet is an implement of the arcane? Though you suppose the Floyd | circlet is the implement that has been kept secret the best. Floyd | Floyd | >

Then wild magic turned Ashnar into a woman, and was occasionally Floyd | referred to as Ashna. When Ashnar obtained the power to turn back into Floyd | a man, they declined to use it, stating that they had better use for Floyd | it. Now as a demideity, Ashnar has manifested as male and female Floyd | avatars, and as avatars showing no clear gender, showing no preference Floyd | for any of these forms. They have however made clear their distaste Floyd | for illusions, mind control, and the idea that there is such a thing Floyd | as destiny. No destiny, just duty. Floyd | Floyd | >
DavidW says (to Floyd), "think about tome"
Floyd ] Health 6/20; Wealth 0 copper; Dirt Road Floyd | > Floyd | > THINK ABOUT TOME Floyd | Floyd | A spell can be likened to a spirit, a pixie with a fixed idea. They do Floyd | one thing over and over again, and most implements can only hold one Floyd | at a time. The tome is a rare exception, in that it can allow multiple Floyd | spells to rest within, literally. Spells in a tome are dormant - they Floyd | do nothing at all until shifted back into another implement. In their Floyd | dormant form, they appear as alien glyphs that no one has deciphered, Floyd | even with translation spells. Whether that is because the glyphs are Floyd | not actually writing or because spells are protecting their secrets Floyd | has yet to be shown. Floyd | Floyd | > | Jacqueline says, "Very nice, KO. Among the most important implements known to your trade, the Floyd | arcanist's, are the staff, the wand, and of course the tome common to Floyd | most mages. Floyd | Floyd | >
