ClubFloyd Transcript:
The idea behind ClubFloyd is that each
week at a pre-arranged time, a group of
people meet online to cooperatively play
a game of interactive fiction.
ANOTHER WARNING! A lot (most!) of the transcripts contained on this site are, shall we say, family-friendly. This is not one of those family-friendly transcripts. Just so we're clear.

DavidW says, "well, let's play Pegasus first and then we can discuss after what to do next."
DavidW says (to Floyd), "load sleepmask pegasus"
Floyd ] Barricade Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | Trigger warning: drug use, mild bad language. Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | "They'll tell you I'm gone. They'll tell you I can't come back. Floyd | That's all true. Floyd | Floyd | But they'll also tell you it's best to forget me. Do me a favour, OK? Floyd | Don't believe them." Floyd | Floyd | Sarah's eyes meet yours, and she holds out her hand for your Redline. Floyd | Floyd | Pegasus Floyd | An Interactive Relationship by Michael Kielstra Floyd | Release 1 / Serial number 180719 / Inform 7 build 6M62 (I6/v6.33 lib Floyd | 6/12N) Floyd | Floyd | Barricade Floyd | A few parked cars were all you and Sarah had on hand to block the Floyd | street. They make a simple barrier, not enough to buy safety, but Floyd | enough to buy some time. There are thirty of them out there, and just Floyd | the two of you. Technically, the deployment objective was fulfilled. Floyd | Now it's just about who's getting out alive. Floyd | Floyd | You can see Sarah here. Floyd | Floyd | > | Knight_Otu says, "Well then."
Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "x me"
Floyd ] Barricade Floyd | > Floyd | > X ME Floyd | Floyd | You're twenty-one: eighteen years of childhood, two of basic training, Floyd | six months of specialisation, and eight in the field. You're not a Floyd | hardened veteran, but you're not the fresh-faced kid you once were. Floyd | Floyd | > | DavidW asks, "What's a redline?"
Knight_Otu asks, "I guess we'll find out?"
Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "i"
Floyd ] Barricade Floyd | > Floyd | > I Floyd | Floyd | You are carrying: Floyd | armour (being worn) Floyd | a rifle Floyd | a death box (open) Floyd | a death needle Floyd | a Redline Floyd | a helmet (being worn) Floyd | Floyd | >
Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "x redline"
Floyd ] Barricade Floyd | > Floyd | > X REDLINE Floyd | Floyd | A thin red stick half as long as your thumb. They said it gave you Floyd | half an hour's grace. Half an hour of not feeling your wounds, of Floyd | blood clotting instantly, of thinking fast and acting faster. Then Floyd | you die. Floyd | Floyd | Sarah waits patiently. Floyd | Floyd | > | DavidW says, "oh. ick."
DavidW says, "I didn't know this would be a war game."
Knight_Otu says, "Not a pleasant thing."
DavidW says, "I was expecting a winged horse and fluffy clouds."
Knight_Otu asks, "If you would be more comfortable stopping?"
Taleslinger arrives, full of neither funk nor fun. | DavidW asks, "uh, it's only a half-hour, right?"
Taleslinger disappears through an invisible gap in the MUD. You think you may have heard the sounds of chatting before the gap closed again. | Knight_Otu says, "Well, CF does tend to go longer."
DavidW says, "And this might just be an intro scene before a venue change anyway."
Knight_Otu asks, "So we go on for a bit?"
DavidW says, "yes, but you drive."
Ellison arrives, full of funk, but no fun.
Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "give redline to sarah"
Floyd | > Floyd | > GIVE REDLINE TO SARAH Floyd | Floyd | (first taking the Redline) Floyd | Sarah swallows the Redline, taking a moment to let it fully work Floyd | through her system. "Remember," she whispers. And you do. You Floyd | remember how everything started, back when life was so much simpler. Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | Please press SPACE to continue.
Knight_Otu pushes the green 'space' button.
Floyd | 'Pro pace pugnamus.' Floyd | --Pegasus motto Floyd ] Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | Please press SPACE to continue. | Knight_Otu asks, "Is that "We fight for peace"?"
Knight_Otu pushes the green 'space' button.
Floyd ] Alcove Floyd | "Trust yourself. Trust your body. Trust your instincts. Trust your Floyd | knowledge." That's the first thing the Sergeant told you. He then Floyd | spent ten minutes playing Mission: Impossible clips and Floyd | pointing out how none of the stunts would have been necessary if Tom Floyd | Cruise had trusted his skills enough for a frontal assault. Floyd | Floyd | "You're an Agent," he said. "Act like one. You are strong. Use your Floyd | strength." Floyd | Floyd | Then came basic training, weeks of it, and now you're ready for your Floyd | first evaluation. The mission, simulated though it is, is simple Floyd | enough: retrieve the laptop. Floyd | Floyd | Alcove Floyd | Sleek white walls enclose this small alcove off the main training Floyd | area. A car chassis, wheel-less and packed with cinder blocks, bars Floyd | the arch out. It must weigh thousands of pounds. The walls behind Floyd | you are sealed, and you can't even see where the gaps were they were Floyd | before they closed. No going back now. Floyd | Floyd | > | DavidW says, "maybe? My Latin is so rusty I might as well not have any."
Knight_Otu says, "I don't trust this Sergeant."
Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "x car"
Floyd ] Alcove Floyd | > Floyd | > X CAR Floyd | Floyd | It's an SUV, but you don't know any more about cars than that. It's Floyd | all that stands between you and the training ground. The wheels are Floyd | gone, so it's not rolling anywhere. To add insult to injury, it's Floyd | filled with cinder blocks. It looks properly heavy. Floyd | Floyd | > | DavidW says, "inventory"
Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "i"
Floyd ] Alcove Floyd | > Floyd | > I Floyd | Floyd | You are carrying: Floyd | a rifle Floyd | armour (being worn) Floyd | Floyd | >
Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "x rifle"
Floyd ] Alcove Floyd | > Floyd | > X RIFLE Floyd | Floyd | Your pride and joy: a Paragal-class mid-heavy assault electroplasma Floyd | accelerator. You love the way its weight feels in the crook of your Floyd | arm, the way its white ceramic casing, polished to a shine, looks Floyd | against your armour. The fact that every new recruit gets one of Floyd | these has in no way dulled your enthusiasm for yours. Floyd | Floyd | >
Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "x armour"
Floyd ] Alcove Floyd | > Floyd | > X ARMOUR Floyd | Floyd | The first thing they gave you, and the closest Pegasus has to a Floyd | uniform, your body armour is what marks you out as a proto-Agent and Floyd | not one of the techs, administrators, command staff, or other various Floyd | base hangers-on. The white hexagons that tile your chest have never Floyd | seen combat, but when they do it'll be great. Floyd | Floyd | > | DavidW asks, "I'm guessing we either climb over or under the car?"
Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "look under car"

Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "stand on car"
Floyd ] Alcove Floyd | > Floyd | > STAND ON CAR Floyd | Floyd | There's no space. It's not a maze, it's a barrier. Floyd | Floyd | > | DavidW asks, "Maybe there's a ceiling trapdoor?"
Knight_Otu says, "I suspect not. I suspect we just shoot it."
DavidW asks, "Shoot the car?"
Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "x ceiling"

Knight_Otu says, "It seems rather dangerous to do, but yeah."
Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "x blocks"
Floyd ] Alcove Floyd | > Floyd | > X BLOCKS Floyd | Floyd | It's an SUV, but you don't know any more about cars than that. It's Floyd | all that stands between you and the training ground. The wheels are Floyd | gone, so it's not rolling anywhere. To add insult to injury, it's Floyd | filled with cinder blocks. It looks properly heavy. Floyd | Floyd | For some reason, you think it looks a bit like a phone booth. Floyd | Floyd | >
Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "get booth"
Floyd ] Alcove Floyd | > Floyd | > GET BOOTH Floyd | Floyd | You can't see any such thing. Floyd | Floyd | > | DavidW says (to ats), "Worth trying."

DavidW says (to Floyd), "x door"
Floyd ] Alcove Floyd | > Floyd | > X DOOR Floyd | Floyd | The chassis would fit through it, but there isn't space for you to Floyd | squeeze around. Floyd | Floyd | >
Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "push car"
Floyd ] Alcove Floyd | > Floyd | > PUSH CAR Floyd | Floyd | Your muscles protest for a second before they remember whose body they Floyd | belong to. A month's worth of standard-issue Pegasus stimulants and Floyd | steroids pulses through your veins, and you force the chassis through Floyd | the door. Your innate sense of direction tells you that the doorway Floyd | you've just opened leads east, to the training ground. Floyd | Floyd | > | DavidW says, "huh."
Knight_Otu says, "I'm surprised."
DavidW says, "We are chemically augmented, I guess."
Knight_Otu says, "Yeah, it says so there. :/"
DavidW asks, "so, uh, east?"
Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "e"
Floyd ] Training Ground Floyd | > Floyd | > E Floyd | Floyd | Floyd | Training Ground Floyd | You've already spent a lot of time here, and you're surprised it Floyd | doesn't look any different from usual. At first glance, it could be a Floyd | school gymnasium set out for a judo lesson: plenty of high ceilings, Floyd | floor mats, and ropes and rings on the walls. Your second glance Floyd | takes in its sheer size, general cleanliness, and the variety of Floyd | equipment, ranging from target dummies to a huge projector screen Floyd | showing a second-order differential equation. A pedestal stands at Floyd | the end of the room. Floyd | Floyd | On the pedestal is a laptop. Floyd | Floyd | >
Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "x pedestal"
Floyd ] Training Ground Floyd | > Floyd | > X PEDESTAL Floyd | Floyd | A wooden box, about waist height. Floyd | Floyd | On the pedestal is a laptop. Floyd | Floyd | > | Knight_Otu asks, "I smell a trap, but is there one?"
Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "x laptop"
Floyd ] Training Ground Floyd | > Floyd | > X LAPTOP Floyd | Floyd | A standard Pegasus laptop: white, as always, with a fifteen-inch Floyd | screen. It's off. You remember someone calling it a Scorpion. Floyd | Agents doing advanced training in computer work are issued with the Floyd | more powerful Manticore, but there's no reason to use a £20,000 piece Floyd | of equipment just as a MacGuffin. Floyd | Floyd | > | DavidW says, "Check out the projector"
Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "x projector"
Floyd ] Training Ground Floyd | > Floyd | > X PROJECTOR Floyd | Floyd | The screen reads "d2y/dx2-3dy/dx+8=6x". Solving second-order Floyd | differential equations in your head is a standard Pegasus mental Floyd | exercise: it's not particularly taxing, once you know how, but it Floyd | takes concentration. This one must have been left up by the last Floyd | people to use the training room. Floyd | Floyd | >
Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "concentrate on projector"
Floyd ] Training Ground Floyd | > Floyd | > CONCENTRATE ON PROJECTOR Floyd | Floyd | That's not a verb I recognise. Floyd | Floyd | >
DavidW says (to Floyd), "solve equation"
Floyd ] Training Ground Floyd | > Floyd | > SOLVE EQUATION Floyd | Floyd | That's not a verb I recognise. Floyd | Floyd | > | DavidW says, "red herring, I guess."

Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "get laptop"
Floyd ] Training Ground Floyd | > Floyd | > GET LAPTOP Floyd | Floyd | You reach for the laptop. "Hey!" A female voice comes out of Floyd | nowhere, followed by the female in question. "That's mine! Hello, by Floyd | the way. I'm Sarah." She leaps between you and the laptop, Floyd | stretching out her hand for it. Floyd | Floyd | > | DavidW says, "oh, there's the trap."
Knight_Otu says, "So it seems."
Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "x sarah"
Floyd ] Training Ground Floyd | > Floyd | > X SARAH Floyd | Floyd | You know her from the lectures, but the two of you have never actually Floyd | spoken before. You're probably stronger physically, but she doesn't Floyd | look like she's too cut up about this. Her stance denotes agility, Floyd | speed, and reflexes that could more than make up for the difference. Floyd | She wears her hair long, her ponytail coming over her shoulder and Floyd | onto her armour. Floyd | Floyd | >
Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "ask sarah about laptop"
Floyd ] Training Ground Floyd | > Floyd | > ASK SARAH ABOUT LAPTOP Floyd | Floyd | Please TALK TO Sarah instead. Floyd | Floyd | > | DavidW says, "I think we still want the laptop."

Floyd ] Chapel Floyd | > Floyd | > GET LAPTOP Floyd | Floyd | You and Sarah grab the laptop and lift it off the pedestal. You smile Floyd | a bit; she smirks. One of the walls slides open, letting you out to Floyd | the rest of the base. You drop the laptop on the stand and leave Floyd | together. You later learn that only twenty per cent of Agents manage Floyd | this sort of alliance. Floyd | Floyd | You are debriefed, your performance analysed, your psyche evaluated, Floyd | and you continue training. You meet Sarah again a few days later, in Floyd | entirely different circumstances. Floyd | Floyd | Chapel Floyd | A semi-circular wall surrounds the podium. Slots, mostly empty, wait Floyd | to receive the remains of those Agents who fall in the line of duty in Floyd | the future. A single curved pew completes the circle. Floyd | Floyd | Every month, there's a memorial service for dead Agents. When Pegasus Floyd | was founded, the service was compulsory and Roman Catholic, because Floyd | the government could not countenance any other kind. These days, it's Floyd | optional and non-denominational, for much the same reason. Floyd | Floyd | You were surprised, and a little pleased, when she showed up too. Floyd | Floyd | >
Knight_Otu says (to Floyd), "x slots"

Floyd ] Rooftop Floyd | Pegasus doesn't normally go in for assassinations, which means that Floyd | the average person's impression on seeing you and Sarah on the edge of Floyd | a rooftop with a rifle would likely have been wrong. You'd flown in Floyd | on a vertical-takeoff jet, now parked safely in a vacant lot a few Floyd | streets over. Your first deployment (Pegasus hates the term Floyd | "mission", but you all use it anyway) was one of reconnaissance, with Floyd | a view to protection. Watch the street for suspicious activity. The Floyd | VIP will be coming down the street in twenty-four hours. Make sure Floyd | it's safe. Walk away if anything serious starts going down -- if Floyd | worst comes to worst, the event can be cancelled. Floyd | Floyd | Rooftop Floyd | Dirty grey panels, punctured by air vents, form the roof of this tower Floyd | block. Far below, you see the street. Floyd ] Old House Floyd | > Floyd | > ABOUT Floyd | Floyd | In the past couple of decades, there has been a surge of psychological Floyd | research into the type of questions usually reserved for sitting at Floyd | the edge of the ocean on a gray day: How can I feel more joy? What Floyd | does love mean? When am I truly fulfilling my purpose in life? This Floyd | research has been grouped into the subfield of Positive Psychology. Floyd | Data shows that some simple actions can improve mood, perspective, and Floyd | resilience. There are now online courses, popular books, research Floyd | journals, and yes, even games. Floyd | Interactive fiction is especially suited to trying out something Floyd | strange and new because it creates a space to experiment through play. Floyd | This game is in a fantasy land, but the player is you, no one else, no Floyd | mask or cloak or metaphor. You could consider this a trial run with Floyd | new, psychological hiking gear, and afterward set off to explore your Floyd | own vast and wild internal world. Floyd | Or, don't have any intentions except playing. Either way, take a Floyd | little time to enjoy Eunice. I certainly enjoyed making it. I'm Floyd | grateful for the experience and for the support from many people along Floyd | the way. Floyd | Type CREDITS to read about everyone who helped make this game Floyd | possible. Floyd | Type COMMANDS for a list of suggested instructions. Floyd | Type HELP for a list of topics with more information. Floyd | Floyd | >
