CF | The Royal Society, Gresham College, London, England, 4th of April
CF | 1673 | ||
CF | | ||
CF | Isaac Newton entered the big living room of the Royal Society. His
CF | friend Isaac Barrow was seated by a table in the northeast corner of
CF | the room. "Hey, Newt! There is a letter for you. I have it here. You
CF | won't believe who sent it!"
CF | | ||
CF | Isaac approached Barrow and sat down on a chair beside him. He took
CF | the letter and looked at the back. It was sent by a Miss Dalton, The
CF | Cottage, Epping Forest.
CF | | ||
CF | "Hmm, I don't know this Miss Dalton," Isaac said.
CF | | ||
CF | "Hehe - it is the infamous 'witch' who lives in a cottage inside
CF | Epping Forest!" Barrow exclaimed. "Come on, open it!"
CF | | ||
CF | Isaac opened the letter and read it:
CF | | ||
CF | Dear Mr Newton, | ||
CF | | ||
CF | You may not believe in witches like me. You may think there is
CF | a logical explanation for everything in this world. However, I would
CF | like to demonstrate that this is not always the case. I am sure that
CF | you will not be able to explain what I want to show you. And should
CF | you manage to explain it, I am sure that you will have discovered a
CF | previously unknown phenomenon.
CF | | ||
CF | You are very welcome in my cottage in the southeast corner of
CF | Epping Forest. I recommend that you come during the day, so you do not
CF | get lost in the forest.
CF | | ||
CF | I am looking forward to meeting you.
CF | | ||
CF | Best regards, | ||

CF | "It is probably a waste of time," Isaac muttered to himself.
CF | | ||
CF | "You never know," Barrow said. "It could provide some inspiration and
CF | might even reveal an undiscovered scientific phenomenon. After all,
CF | you have been lacking some inspiration lately."
CF | | ||
CF | "That's true. Perhaps I will go there," Isaac said.
CF | | ||
CF | Later, in the evening, Isaac decided that he would go and visit the
CF | 'witch' after a good night's sleep.
CF | | ||
CF | The following morning Isaac stepped down from the carriage, paid the
CF | coachman and entered the forest. He walked for a short while before he
CF | noticed the cottage in a small clearing. He approached it.

CF | in here, only the stool, the rocking chair where Anna Dalton was

CF | air felt warmer, almost as if it was summer. He walked south out of
CF | the forest along a path. But he didn't walk for long before he saw
CF | something was different. A lot of small houses appeared in the
CF | distance. Isaac was sure they weren't there before. Isaac kept walking
CF | until he reached a road stretching east and west. Right on the other
CF | side of this road, there were some strange small houses, a building
CF | style which Isaac had never seen before. Furthermore, the road was not
CF | of ordinary cobblestone but made of a material that Isaac recognized
CF | as asphalt. How strange...
CF | | ||
CF | North of a strange road
CF | Isaac stood at the south end of the forest path by a strange road made
CF | of asphalt. He could go north back to the cottage or cross the road by
CF | going south, whereas he had no incentive to go east or west along the
CF | road. Isaac could see a road sign.

CF | | ||
CF | Isaac stood up, opened the door and entered a big living room. In one
CF | corner of the room, a young woman was seated in a sofa. "Great, you

CF | | ||
CF | "You don't know that you are in London? You are in London," Lisa

CF | | ||
CF | "Strange, I've never heard of Epping Road," Isaac muttered to himself. | DavidW asks, "Do either of you want to drive? I'm not sure how to proceed. Probably just talking?"

CF | himself."Have you seen the news?" Lisa asked. "Something very strange
CF | has happened today! Come and sit, I will show you."
CF | | ||
CF | Isaac sat down in the sofa beside Lisa. Lisa took a rectangular piece
CF | of metal from the strange sofa table and pointed at a big black box,
CF | which was placed against the wall. Then light poured out from the box.
CF | What Isaac saw was breathtaking: A man who was obviously too big to be
CF | inside the box was talking to them! Isaac did not listen. He was
CF | paralyzed. What was happening?
DavidW pushes the green 'space' button.
CF | paralyzed. What was happening?"They have been sending this the last
CF | couple of hours," Lisa said, "and it just gets more and more strange.
CF | Maybe five hours ago, my phone stopped working. I was visiting a
CF | friend and her phone stopped working too. We switched on the telly but
CF | it also didn't work. I went home and found that our TV didn't work
CF | either. I then went to the basement and fetched our old CRT TV. It
CF | worked. They say that most electronics are not working and that the
CF | problem is global. All the best engineers and scientists have been
CF | looking into the problem. But none of them remember how the
CF | malfunctioning equipment is supposed to work! They do remember how the
CF | working equipment functions though. It's mainly older electronic
CF | equipment that works. It is soo strange..."
CF | | ||

CF | ask, "What year is this?"
DavidW pushes the green 'space' button.

CF | Hopefully, you will feel better then. Please feel at home."
CF | | ||
CF | Lisa left the room and shortly after Isaac heard the front door slam.
CF | Then he started listening to the guy in what Lisa called a TV:
CF | | ||
CF | Scientists say that something must have happened to physics!
CF | Unfortunately, they cannot remember how physics used to be. We could
CF | really use a scientist like the late Albert Einstein now. Never
CF | before, and never after, has there been such a genius, the man who
CF | wrote the scientific masterpiece 'Die mathematischen Grundlagen der
CF | Naturphilosophie' which is German for 'Mathematical Principles of
CF | Natural Philosophy'. Luckily, all the physics Einstein described, seem
CF | to be intact. But most modern scientists and engineers have forgotten

CF | deeply about this and ignored the rest of the speech coming from the
CF | TV. How and why had he arrived in the future? And why was the future a
CF | mess? Were these two things connected? Had it something to do with
CF | that guy Einstein's 'Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy'?
CF | After all, the title was practically identical to the book Isaac had

CF | years researching mechanics. Perhaps Einstein and his peers would then

CF | First Isaac had to make room for the book, so while no one was
CF | looking, Isaac hid the lunch box behind some books. Then he quickly
CF | slipped the big book by Einstein into the bag and closed it.
CF | | ||
CF | Shortly after the kindergarten teacher called the children and asked
CF | them to listen carefully. She instructed them to put on their bags and
CF | prepare to leave. She then told them to stand in two lines and hold
CF | hands with the child next to them. Luckily the boy carrying the bag
CF | with the book was last in line. The kindergarten teacher and the
CF | children went towards the front desk and then further out onto the
CF | street. Isaac followed them closely, keeping an eye on the boy who was
CF | carrying the book in his school bag.
CF | | ||
CF | Suddenly the boy shouted, "Angela, my bag is so heavy!"
CF | | ||
CF | "Don't be silly. You could carry it to the library so, of course, you
CF | can carry it back," the kindergarten teacher said firmly. Then she led
CF | the kids west along the street. Isaac kept following them.

CF | Einstein. Shortly after the boy who had carried the book yelled,
CF | "Angela, my bag isn't heavy anymore."
CF | | ||
CF | The kids kept on walking but Isaac had stopped. Triumphantly he looked
CF | at the book. "This must be it!" he thought to himself.
CF | | ||
CF | Isaac tried to hitch a ride but no one stopped. He realized that he
CF | had to walk back to the forest. As the weather was good, that wasn't
CF | going to be a problem.
CF | | ||
CF | Isaac walked for a little more than an hour before arriving at Anna

CF | Isaac stood south of the front door to a dilapidated cottage. There

CF | Once again Isaac entered the cottage. He closed the door, as he

CF | | ||
CF | Anna started to talk, "Welcome my friend! I can feel the energies
CF | surrounding you are very positive now. I think it is time to bring you
CF | back to your own time. But first, please show me the object you
CF | found." | ||
CF | | ||
CF | Isaac showed her the book. "A science book!" Anna exclaimed. "Of
CF | course! Well, let's get you back to your own time." Anna made an
CF | apparently insignificant move with her right hand and continued, "Now
CF | leave. When you go out that door you will be back in 1673. I am sure
CF | you will know what to do with that book."
CF | | ||
CF | Isaac said goodbye and left. He found that everything was back to
CF | normal in London. Well, except for that book. Isaac hid the book well
CF | for many years and started to translate it into Latin. The final title
CF | was 'Philosophi Naturalis Principia Mathematica' and it was divided
CF | into three volumes in case some poor child would have to carry some of
CF | it in a school bag someday. Isaac decided to publish the book on the
CF | 5th of July 1687 and he burned the original by Einstein.
CF | | ||
CF | With gravity and mechanics in place, Isaac felt confident that
CF | Einstein and his peers sometime in the future would master the Theory
CF | of Relativity and Quantum Mechanics, and as a consequence, everything
CF | would be back to normal in 2020.
CF | | ||
CF | The publication 'Philosophi Naturalis Principia Mathematica' was a
