ClubFloyd Transcript:
The Little Match Girl 4: Crown of Pearls by Ryan Veeder
As played on ifMUD on October 15-22, 2023

The idea behind ClubFloyd is that each week at a pre-arranged time, a group of people meet online to cooperatively play a game of interactive fiction.

Below is a transcript of The Little Match Girl 4: Crown of Pearls written by Ryan Veeder. The Little Match Girl 4: Crown of Pearls was released as part of the 2023 Interactive Fiction Competition, in which it took third place. You can learn more about the game, including how to download it, by visiting IFDB.

WARNING! Below you will find a transcript of people playing this game, and it goes without saying that the transcript is full of spoilers. So, if you've never played this game, and think you might like to at some point, I do not recommend reading any further. Instead, you might want to return to the interactive fiction page.

#ClubFloyd Discussion

*** SESSION 1 *** DavidW says, "I was about to suggest that we start The Little Match Girl 4 today."
Cerfeuil says, "Oh, that sounds fun."
DavidW says, "by Ryan Veeder, from the recent IF Comp that is currently going."
DavidW says, "It should be fun. Might be a bit sad, if it's anything like the source story."
keltena says, "LMG4 is good."
Cerfeuil says, "I've gotten partway through The Little Match Girl 3 but had to do other stuff cause I was interrupted. Parser RPG is a great concept though."
DavidW says, "I haven't played any of the other Match Girls yet. I hope I don't need the backstory."
keltena says, "(I played it with zero knowledge of the other three, and tbh I was kind of surprised to find out they actually existed; it read to me like it was made to be experienced context-free)"
DavidW says, "oh good."
Jade says, "I have played only the first title and was very short"

CF | (On New Year's Eve, 1845, a nameless little girl was forced by her
CF | cruel father to sell matches in the icy streets of Copenhagen. On the
CF | verge of freezing to death, the girl manifested an ability to
CF | travel through time and space whenever she looked at fire.
CF | The discovery led to her adoption that very night by the renowned
CF | philanthropist Ebenezer Scrooge, who christened his new daughter
CF | Ebenezabeth.
CF |
CF | In the years since, Ebenezabeth has endeavored to use her powers for
CF | good. Although she abhors violence, the reputation she has earned
CF | across the centuries is that of a time-traveling bounty hunter
CF | and vampire slayer. The mistakes she has made and the lives she has
CF | taken in the pursuit of justice weigh heavily on her conscience.
CF |
CF | It is now December of 1848. Our hero is nineteen years old. Her latest

CF | exactly does the Crown require of Ebenezabeth Scrooge? Is the Little

CF |
CF | I am not an educated man. I have never been accused of expertise in

CF | In place of any intellectual virtues, I have the gift of intuition. I
CF | have been called lucky; that is not putting the right shade on it. A
CF | lucky man reaches his hand out from his window to feel for rain, and a
