ClubFloyd Transcript:
Bonfire Night: The Black Dog by Carter X. Gwertzman
As played on ifMUD on December 17, 2023

The idea behind ClubFloyd is that each week at a pre-arranged time, a group of people meet online to cooperatively play a game of interactive fiction.

Below is a transcript of Bonfire Night: The Black Dog written by Carter X. Gwertzman. Bonfire Night: The Black Dog was released as part of ECTOCOMP 2023; it placed 17th in La Petite Mort. You can learn more about this game, including how to download it, by visiting IFDB.

WARNING! Below you will find a transcript of people playing this game, and it goes without saying that the transcript is full of spoilers. So, if you've never played this game, and think you might like to at some point, I do not recommend reading any further. Instead, you might want to return to the interactive fiction page.

CF | Bonfire Night: The Black Dog
CF | An Interactive Fiction by Carter X Gwertzman
CF | Release 1 / Serial number 231105 / Inform 7 build 6M62 (I6/v6.33 lib
CF | 6/12N)
CF |
CF | It is the night of the new moon, of the harvest, of the bonfire. You
CF | sit in the cellar, clutching your hour-candle tight, waiting for the
CF | moment you will give the town-- this crumbling, dying town-- new life.
CF | You had almost aged out of it (it always has to be a child), but they
CF | chose you in the end, and here you are.
CF |
CF | Cellar
CF | The rough stone floor is cold against your feet. A thin wooden ladder
CF | leads up to a hatch above your head.
CF |
CF | Shreds of rope lay discarded on the ground.
CF |
CF | A carpenter's saw lies half-buried in the dust beneath the ladder.
CF |
CF | Type HELP at any time to view a list of commands.
CF |
CF | > Jacqueline says, "Eep. Having flashbacks to that other creepy child sacrifice PC game."
keltena asks, "Oh, which one?"
Jacqueline says, "Trying to recall the name..."
Jacqueline says, "It was very good, I just have a terrible memory."
Jacqueline says, "Also, brb, grabbing a drink."
Jacqueline says, "Lydia's Heart, Jim Aiken. I think that's what I'm thinking of."
Jacqueline says, "It's creepy and smarmy and worthwhile."
keltena says, "Thanks! Adding to my to-play list"
Jacqueline says, "Also, huh: Jim Aiken has his own wikipedia page? Like, not IF wiki, actual wikipedia. Huh."
keltena says, "Huh."
Jacqueline says (to keltena), "If you get stuck, our transcript for that one is up on the site."
Jacqueline says, "We played it in 2021/"
keltena says, "Good to know!"

CF |

Jacqueline says, "The creepy sacrificers didn't even leave a guard? Idiots."
keltena says, "Idiots, or not wanting to be there when 'they' come, perhaps? :|a"
Jacqueline says, "Hm, possible. That makes it creepier."

keltena says, "...Ah, that lowers the smaller casket"
Lancelot says, "righto"
keltena asks, "I wonder if, if we timed that right, we could drop it on whoever's coming for us?"
Jacqueline says, "So, up seems bad, but so does going back into the church"
Lancelot says, "hmm yeah hit them with the thing"
keltena asks, "Would we rather wait here, or bite the bullet and look around?"
