ClubFloyd Transcript:
You Are Standing by Aaron A. Reed
As played on ifMUD on December 31, 2023

The idea behind ClubFloyd is that each week at a pre-arranged time, a group of people meet online to cooperatively play a game of interactive fiction.

Below is a transcript of You Are Standing written by Aaron A. Reed. You Are Standing was released as a bonus text game created specifically for the Ultimate Collector's Edition of 50 Years of Text Games. It was initially only available to KickStarter backers on 3.5" floppy disc and/or as a download. You can learn more about the game, including how to download it, by visiting IFDB.

WARNING! Below you will find a transcript of people playing this game, and it goes without saying that the transcript is full of spoilers. So, if you've never played this game, and think you might like to at some point, I do not recommend reading any further. Instead, you might want to return to the interactive fiction page.

CF |
CF | You suppose you owe it to his fans to find out what's on it. Maybe one

CF |
CF | The timestamps on the earliest files are decades old. You start with

CF asks, "That game over already? It was just getting good. Wanna play another?" catherine says, "yeah."
catherine says, "holy hell"
DavidW says, "It started so innocently!"
catherine asks, "isn't that how all the hardest-hitting narratives start?"
DavidW says, "uh, yes"
inventor says, "In ways I cannot articulate, so much of that game hit so, so many strings in me that I forgot I had."
inventor says, "Struggling to read the screen right now."
catherine says, "god, same here."
catherine says, "this was an amazing summation of 50 years of text games, and a hell of a narrative"
inventor nods in agreement, focusing on their breathing.
DavidW says, "Good timing too, it's just after 4 now."
catherine says, "not that i would've stopped, given how the narrative was going"
DavidW says, "I am curious on the technical details, like how the holy f that was coded."
inventor says (to catherine), "Same, honestly."
inventor says, "Lancelot has no idea what he missed."
inventor says, "Oh my gawd."
catherine says, "also, apparently, it was built to fit into 90k of space on an actual floppy disk, which would've made this even more meta"
inventor asks (of catherine), "Wait, *actually*??"
DavidW says, "It's written in PunyInform, I think, to be small."
catherine says (to inventor), "so sayeth ifdb!"
inventor says, "Aaron Reed, oh my gawd, you... ... ...*wonderful* author."
inventor is just now getting their breathing back under control.
catherine says, "god, yeah"
inventor says, "Thank you for driving, catherine. I would have gotten stuck too many times, and we would not have gotten anywhere close to this."
DavidW says, "yes, thank you, catherine."
DavidW says, "I guess that StoryNexus section must be weighted so no matter what, things go dire."
catherine says, "not difficult to do, yeah. seems like everything that could mitigate something comes at the cost of something else"
inventor says, "Yeah, maybe not within a known number of turns, but it creates a slow chipping away at the stats."
inventor says, "Again, sorry to whoever needs to censor, but: Gawdfuckingdamnit, Aaron A. Reed, you absolute gem of an author, look what you did to me."
inventor says, "I hope you find this transcript online."
inventor says, "And I hope this game was well-received, oh my gawd."
inventor says, "I haven't seen the IFDB for it yet"
DavidW says, "I heard about it on Mastodon."
DavidW says, "I follow Aaron there."
inventor says, "I don't think I've played any of Reed's games before; what a fucking starting point."
DavidW says, "oh, you should play some of his other games, yes."
