ClubFloyd Transcript:
Fireboat by Jeff Greer (fos1)
Museum of Paranormal Phenomena by Olaf Nowacki
Your Little Haunting by Christina Nordlander
As played on ifMUD on November 17, 2024

The idea behind ClubFloyd is that each week at a pre-arranged time, a group of people meet online to cooperatively play a game of interactive fiction.

Below is a transcript of Fireboat written by Jeff Greer (fos1), Museum of Paranormal Phenomena written by Olaf Nowacki, and Your Little Haunting written by Christina Nordlander. Fireboat, Museum of Paranormal Phenomena, and Your Little Haunting were all released as part of the 2024 ECTOCOMP; these took 18th place in Le Grand Guignol, 17th place in Le Grand Guignol, and 17th Place in La Petite Mort, respectively. You can learn more about the games, including how to download them, by visiting the IFDB pages: Museum of Paranormal Phenomena, Fireboat, and Your Little Haunting.

WARNING! Below you will find a transcript of people playing these games, and it goes without saying that the transcript is full of spoilers. So, if you've never played these games, and think you might like to at some point, I do not recommend reading any further. Instead, you might want to return to the interactive fiction page.

#ClubFloyd Discussion

DavidW asks, "are we ready to try Fireboat?"
Jacqueline says, "I am."
Jade says, "ok, let's go with Fireboat"
DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "load sleepmask fireboat"

CF |
CF | You are on the aft deck of fireboat FDNY 11 in the middle of the
CF | Hudson River just off Manhattan, a borough in the city of New York.
CF |
CF | It is just getting dark and you notice something shimmering off the
CF | fantail.
CF |
CF | NOTE: This game uses nautical directions while on board the FDNY 11.
CF | For example:
CF |
CF | (If you use single letter abbreviations for the directions you wish to
CF | go, it will not work!)
CF |
CF | Forward / Fore
CF | After / Aft
CF | Port ("Port" is a direction, not a place.)
CF | Starboard / Stbd
CF | Above / Up
CF | Below / Down
CF |
CF | On a marine vessel (boat, ship etc.) when facing the bow (the pointy
CF | end): port is on the left and starboard is on the right. This is a
CF | moving marine vessel. You can only access a location when you are
CF | actually at that location. For example, stepping off the after deck
CF | when you aren't near a pier would result in a swim in the Hudson
CF | river.
CF |
CF | Follow the breadcrumbs (narrative) and you will find your path.

CF | FDNY 11 After Deck
CF | The aft deck is dominated by a fire cannon that can shoot a stream of
CF | thousands of gallons of water per minute at vessels and shoreline
CF | fires along the NYC coastline. It is controlled from Fire Cannon
CF | Control above the deck house. The deck house is forward of the aft
CF | deck.
CF |
CF | You can see a shimmering apparition here.
CF |
CF | > Jacqueline says, "Do not step off the after deck when we are not at the pier."
Jacqueline says, "Or, maybe do."
DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "x apparition"

CF |
CF | The shimmering or apparition appears to be taking on the shape of a

Jacqueline exclaims, "Welcome to the ClubHouse!"
Jade says, "I get banned frequently"
DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "read note"
CF ] Galley Moves: 14
CF |
CF | > READ NOTE
CF |
CF | I need your help immediately. I somehow observed a terrorist planning
CF | to destroy the city of New York. I was born and raised here. My
CF | husband passed away in World War II leaving me a child to raise on my
CF | own. I passed away years ago, but I must help save the city for
CF | everyone, not just my family.
CF |
CF | Enough of that. The terrorist has already planted a bomb on one of the
CF | Bear Bridge support towers. I don't exactly know when it is set to go
CF | off. The terrorist used a code symbol Ɛ. I'm not sure what it means
CF | but it could be the date.
CF |
CF | I'll find a way to contact you again. Be alert. It is difficult for
CF | me. Now that I have taken on the aura of Kenyon, I feel more
CF | comfortable in the galley but I may still venture out and try to keep
CF | track of the terrorist and his activities. Check back here whenever
CF | you can.
CF |
CF | > Jade says, "Something seems not to be working properly in the mud"
Jacqueline asks (of Jade), "Oh?"
Jade says, "I am kicked out everyday"
Jacqueline asks, "I can't read the code symbol, can anyone else?"
Jacqueline says (to Jade), "Oh, yeah, sometimes it drops."
Jade says, "I can't read the messages in Clubhouse"
Jacqueline asks, "Really?"
Jacqueline asks, "Like, you can't see the game?"
DavidW says, "The code symbol looks like an AE glyph."
Jade says, "Yes, now itself..."
Jacqueline says (to DW), "Thanks."
Jade says, "Ok, go on"
DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "x Kenyon"
CF ] Galley Moves: 15
CF |
CF | > X KENYON
CF |
CF | The mysterious Kenyon has just entered your life. Who knows? Maybe she
CF | is just a figment of your imagination.
CF |
CF | You are intrigued, however, and must find out more. You had a
CF | grandmother named Kenyon...
CF |
CF | Note: Apparitions are fleeting. Any information "Kenyon" might provide
CF | will be fleeting and you may not be able to see it again. Either
CF | memorize the info or write it down somewhere.
CF |
CF | > Jacqueline says, "'The mysterious Jacqueline has just entered your life' would be a good olounge."
DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "x computer"
CF ] Galley Moves: 16
CF |
CF | > X COMPUTER
CF |
CF | The computer station is located in a quiet corner of the galley. It
CF | doesn't get much use since everyone is usually on duty. It doesn't
CF | appear to be working at this time.
CF |
CF |
CF | >
DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "x tv"
CF ] Galley Moves: 17
CF |
CF | > X TV
CF |
CF | The television is a modern flatscreen mounted on a wall off the end of
CF | the galley table. It is currently set to a local news channel. A
CF | commentator is warning everyone that the FBI issued an alert that a
CF | terrorist is reported to be somewhere in New York. If you observe any
CF | suspicious persons or activity, notify the local authorities
CF | immediately. The FBI warns that he is armed and very dangerous. Do not
CF | approach him under any circumstances.

CF |
CF | The bookshelf is an enclosed shelf that contains a few books including
CF | novels, references and manuals for the boat's equipment. The shelf is
CF | kept closed unless in use to prevent the books from falling all over
CF | the deck.
CF |
CF |
CF | >
DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "open it"
CF ] Galley Moves: 19
CF |
CF | > OPEN IT
CF |
CF | You open the bookshelf, revealing a math textbook, a Clive Cussler
CF | series and a China Bayles series.
CF |

DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "take math"
CF ] Galley Moves: 20

CF |
CF | Taken.
CF |

CF |
CF | > READ IT
CF |
CF | The math textbook is marked to a page describing number systems. A
CF | section on the duo-decimal system is highlighted. The symbol Ɛ in
CF | duo-decimal is an 'eleven' in our ten digit numbering system!
CF |
CF | Today is the eleventh! You must go to the FDNY Pier and "TAKE" the
CF | SWAT team aboard #11 and "DROP" them off at the Bear Bridge.
CF |
CF | You will need to go to the Pilot House and move the boat to the FDNY
CF | Pier.
CF |
CF | You suspect that this is more info from Kenyon. Be alert for future
CF | info.
CF |
CF | > Jacqueline says, "Well okay then."
Jacqueline says, "It's all coming together."
DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "close bookshelf"
CF ] Galley Moves: 22

CF | > CLOSE BOOKSHELF
CF |
CF | The bookshelf is already closed.
CF |
CF | > Jade asks, "FDNY?"
Jacqueline says, "Fire Department New York"
Jade asks, "NYFD?"
