DavidW says, "hi Jacqueline. hi jen."
Jacqueline says, "Howdy."
jenrexrode says, "hi DW"
DavidW says, "hi Roger."
Roger says, "howdy cowpokes"
jenrexrode says, "hi roger"
Jacqueline asks, "So... should we just finish out the three-parter?"
DavidW says, "That was my plan unless there's another one that pre-empts it."
jenrexrode says, "yes"
Jacqueline says, "Nah, sounds good."
DavidW says, "oh, by the way, there was a new version of Tin Star released, last week's game? The version we played wasn't intended to be the finished version."
Jacqueline says, "oh. Huh."
DavidW says, "I haven't played v2 of Tin Star yet, but it supposedly fixes many of the problems we had."
Jacqueline asks, "Ah. Maybe I should put some sort of a disclaimer on that transcript?"
Jacqueline asks, "Is the game we were planning to play today in a similar boat?"
DavidW says, "I added a comment after the transcript."
DavidW says, "Desperados seems to be unchanged. Last updated 23 days ago."
Jacqueline says, "Oh, at the bottom in the Discord stuff"
DavidW says, "yes, Discord comment."
Jacqueline says, "Okay. I'll take a look later and maybe move that up to the top, which people are more inclined to read."
DavidW says, "yeah, that would be good, please, thanks"
DavidW says, "When should we start? I don't see Jade or Teaspoon yet."
DavidW says, "asparagus has already played it."
Jacqueline says, "Yeah, I feel we should start. I have a call I promised I'd make when we're done today, so I have a bit of a hard stop."
DavidW says, "okay" | ||
DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "load sleepmask desperados"
CF ] Trail from Desert Moves: 0
CF | | ||
CF | | ||
CF | In the days when the Wild West was roamed by bandits and murderers,
CF | lawmen had a lot to deal with. Honest sheriffs and brave rangers
CF | tracked outlaws over wild terrain, but very often they had to stop at
CF | the Mexican border, because they had no jurisdiction in Mexico.
CF | | ||
CF | Countless gangs of bandits used this to their advantage. They would
CF | cross the border to rob and kill in the southern states, then return
CF | to Mexico to spend their stolen loot.
CF | | ||
CF | In your role as the sheriff of Tucson, Arizona, you had experienced
CF | this humiliating situation many times, but this time was different.
CF | Manolo Ramirez and his gang had attacked a small community of
CF | settlers, kidnapped the girls and killed everyone else. That day, you
CF | decided that jurisdictional boundaries shouldn't be used to allow
CF | these criminals to get away with murder. There comes a time when
CF | humanity, compassion and justice must prevail.
CF | | ||
CF | So, you left your tin star on your office desk and entrusted the care
CF | of the town to your deputy. You were soon in hot pursuit of Ramirez
CF | and his gang. | ||
CF | | ||
CF | The first three days of your search lead to nothing but dead ends. On
CF | the fourth day, your horse was spooked by a rattlesnake and galloped
CF | off, leaving you alone on foot without any supplies, apart from your
CF | weapons. Tired, and low on ammunition, you trudged on until you
CF | reached the outskirts of a small village, but there was no sign of
CF | life. Normally, there would be dogs and chickens and the children
CF | would run out to meet a stranger. You had a horrible feeling that the
CF | desperados had been here and the hoof tracks attested to that.
CF | | ||
CF | As you approach the village, your nostrils are accosted by the stench
CF | of death and decay. You are now sure that Ramirez's gang had once
CF | again ravaged a small, defenceless community. It's time for this to
CF | end once and for all. It's time to track down these murderers and make
CF | them pay! | ||

CF | Trail from Desert | ||
CF | You're on a dusty trail that runs from the desert in the east to a
CF | Mexican village in the west. The untracked desert extends to the north
CF | and south of the trail. The sun beats down on you, so going back
CF | towards the desert is not an option, as it would put your life in
CF | danger. | ||
CF | | ||
CF | You can see a wooden sign here.

CF | | ||
CF | Your name is Kenneth Johnson and you're the sheriff of Tucson. You're
CF | on the trail of the bandits that assaulted and killed those settlers
CF | on the border. It's a dangerous undertaking, but it's your duty to
CF | catch them. | ||

CF | The villa is quite dark inside. From what you can see, it looks quite
CF | modest with minimal furnishings. It doesn't appear to have been
CF | plundered by the desperados. Maybe the locked door kept them out or
CF | they weren't interested in such a humble abode. At any rate, you don't
CF | have time to look around, so you should leave through the front door
CF | to the south. | ||
CF | | ||
CF | You can see the dead outlaw here.

CF | Road out of Village | ||
CF | You're on a road that leads out of the village towards the west. The
CF | front door of a small villa faces the road to the north and the
CF | village square is back to the east. Fresh hoof prints attract your
CF | attention. | ||
CF | | ||
CF | You can see a small key, a cotton handkerchief, some feathers and a
CF | dead woman here. | ||
CF | | ||
CF | The boy from the bell tower runs down the road from the west. You
CF | notice that he's still carrying the bottle that you gave him earlier,
CF | but there's now something slithering around inside it. What's he up
CF | to? | ||
CF | | ||
CF | The boy points to the west, where you see a cloud of dust indicating
CF | that something, or rather someone, is approaching fast.
CF | | ||
CF | > | DavidW says, "drat. I guess we weren't supposed to do the church so soon."
DavidW says, "What should we do? I don't think I have the carrying capacity to fiddle with feathers and dead women."

CF | Village Square | ||
CF | You're in the village square. This would have been a lively meeting
CF | place before the bandits came, but now it's quiet. You can leave the
CF | square to the east and west. Otherwise, the village church beckons you
CF | to the north and more of the village is to the south.

CF | Porch of Villa | ||
CF | You're on the porch of a villa located on the east side of the village
CF | square. It's a big house, compared to the others, possibly the home of
CF | someone important. The front door of the villa is to the east.
CF | | ||

CF | throwing gesture. He then runs off to the west. The boy must have a
CF | plan. You have no idea what it is, but you feel you can trust him.

CF | | ||
CF | You hear a rumbling of hooves. The band of desperados is getting much
CF | closer. You hope your disguise is enough to fool them when they
CF | arrive. | ||

CF | suddenly swerves into the horse of one of his compatriots. The second
CF | man is offended by this seeming act of violence and starts a fight.
CF | Within moments, the desperados are in disarray. Now is the time to
CF | act! | ||
CF | | ||

DavidW says (to ClubFloyd), "throw bottle at desperados"
CF ] Porch of Villallager Moves: 184
CF | | ||
CF | > THROW BOTTLE AT DESPERADOS
CF | | ||
CF | You jump out of the rocking chair and throw the bottle at the
CF | desperados. It lands among the horses, shatters into pieces and the
CF | rattlesnake bursts out of it and bites at the horses' legs. The horses
CF | rear and most of the bandits are dismounted.
CF | | ||
CF | This was the opportunity you were waiting for. You fire your rifle at
CF | the bandits, killing Manolo Ramirez first, then his minions. When the
CF | rifle is empty, you draw your revolver and empty it as well. This band
CF | of murderers will not harm anyone ever again.
CF | | ||
CF | When everything is quiet, the brave boy emerges from his hiding place
CF | and frisks Ramirez's pockets. He seemed to know what he was looking
CF | for, as he retrieves a big key and runs towards the villa behind you.
CF | He unlocks the door and lets the villagers out. You had no idea they
CF | were even in there. | ||
CF | | ||
CF | The villagers quickly spread throughout the village to survey the
CF | situation and grieve for their dead friends. The survivors are happy
CF | to be alive and free of this nightmare. They greet you as their hero.
CF | You try to explain that it was all the brave boy's idea, but they
CF | don't understand you. You were the one with the guns and you were the
CF | one that shot all the desperados, so you are their hero. The boy just
CF | gives you a big smile. It seems that he agrees with the rest of the
CF | villagers. | ||
CF | | ||
CF | And so, the legend of Kenneth Johnson continues.

Jacqueline says, "Good little boy."
DavidW says, "we were closer to the end than I realized."
Jacqueline says, "Basically the boy won this game, but let's take credit anyway."
DavidW says, "I wonder how one goes about trapping a rattlesnake into a bottle."
Jacqueline says, "Very carefully, I suspect."
Teaspoon says, "it would have to be a wide necked bottle"
Jacqueline says, "Although I once captured a baby cottonmouth in a brown paper bag, which was incredibly stupid of me."
DavidW says, "I don't remember ever having that skill in any game and I'm a bit envious."
Teaspoon asks, "what do you do with a snake once it's in a paper bag?"
Jacqueline says, "I wanted to take it to someone to identify it."
Jacqueline says, "They jumped out of their skin when I showed it to them. I then sighed and let it go."
Jacqueline says, "Oh wait - not a cottonmouth, a copperhead."
DavidW says, "oh my" | ||
Jacqueline says, "I was, like, 15 or 16 or something."
Teaspoon says, "That does sound like it could unnerve someone"
Jacqueline says, "He was a big burly law enforcement person, I didn't think he'd flinch like that."
Jacqueline says, "Made me feel bad."
Jacqueline says, "Anyway, I'd rescued the snake from a pool. It couldn't get out."
Jacqueline says, "So at the end of the day no one was hurt, including the snake."
Teaspoon says, "that was nice of you"
DavidW says, "The snake might've been copper, but that story was gold."
Jacqueline laughs | ||
Teaspoon says, "lol" | ||
DavidW says, "I'm not sure what to do next. I don't think we have a quick game on the list."
Jacqueline says, "Let's just reconvene next week. I'll get this transcript up on the site."
Jacqueline says, "I'm glad we played those. They're short but solid and are satisfying bite-sized episodes."
DavidW says, "Yeah, I like bite-sized games like these."
